We got some new and expanded gameplay from Redfall, the latest open-world game from Bethesda and Arkane Austin, as well as a release date for Redfall at Xbox Developer_Direct, where many Microsoft-led studios gathered to reveal gameplay and news for their upcoming 2023 titles.

Developer_Direct showed us the new looks for Redfall, Minecraft Legends, Elder Scrolls Online and the future of Forza Motorsport, and Microsoft has finally given us a glimpse of what it has planned for 2023. As a reminder, there will be a separate screening of Starfield after that. All of this news comes after Microsoft showed nothing at The Game Awards.

Redfall release date set for May 2 on PC, consoles and Xbox Game Pass.

You can watch the new Redfall gameplay trailer below.

Redfall's open world is full of small encounters, with plenty of opportunity to approach missions in the immersive simulation style of the Arkane games it's known for. You will have to explore otherworldly, vampire-infested territories that also change every time you enter them, using all the abilities of the characters along the way.

Nests aren't all you have to watch out for, as there are hideouts all over the island that will help you take on the vampire bosses located throughout the map. You can encounter these “under-bosses” after liberating the territory, and as a reward you will receive a key with which you can resist the main threat - the “vampire gods”.

If you like Arkane's vampire shooter, the studio has already emphasized that Redfall is more Far Cry than Left 4 Dead, after numerous comparisons have been made to Valve's team-based shooter since launch.

“It’s completely understandable that someone would come to this conclusion,” explains Arkane creative director Ricardo Baer. “The game has four playable characters, you can play together in co-op, and you go against the undead. But in terms of how you play and experience Redfall, it's nothing like those games. "Redfall is more like loading into Far Cry."

If you're also worried about what Redfall means for Arkane's immersive sims, don't worry, as Redfall is not the end of Arkane's immersive sims. "Eventually we'll probably go back to very sealed environments, like immersive simulations," says director Harvey Smits.
