To add to the ever-expanding list of things that can run classic 1993 FPS game Doom, game developer Sam Chiet managed to run the shooter at 60fps in Microsoft's Notepad software because, of course, Doom has nowhere to go but up. .

Chiet's post on how to make Doom work inside Notepad exploded online so much that Doom creator John Romero responded by simply calling the achievement "incredible" - and with good reason. Chiet also says they will provide an update "if/when I make it available for download".

According to Chiet, the footage below of Doom running in Notepad is not sped up, the Notepad.exe code is also unchanged, and can be fully played live with "zero fake".

“It will take some work to turn NotepadDOOM into something that can be released,” says Chiet in a follow-up post, “but it will almost certainly happen in the next couple of days.”

While the image of Doom running in Notepad is naturally a little blurry, that doesn't detract from the ability to run a classic FPS in a note-taking tool that I guess most of us don't use, let alone a gunslinger can run in it. .

Launching Doom in the most unexpected places has become something of an internet tradition, with nearly three decades of FPS running in a Twitter bot, the ability to launch Doom in Doom, and even getting Doom on a GoPro controller. To be honest, the excellence of the Doom developers and community never ceases to amaze me, and I can't wait to see where Doom goes next.

If you want to see more of Chiet's work, you can follow them at Twitter or even support them Patreon to help fund all of their weird, wonderful and wacky gaming creations.

Despite being nearly 30 years old, Doom is constantly in the news cycle, in fact, we recently spoke with Trivium's Matt Heafy, who said he would like to write a Doom soundtrack, calling the opportunity "a dream of a lifetime." The Doom Thatcher's Techbase mod also lets you send former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to hell, played by a former union leader.
