Do you like retro shooters reminiscent of Doom, Quake, Hexen, Heretic and old-school Duke Nukem? Then, perhaps, you are already familiar with the Amid Evil walker from the New Blood Interactive team. Along with a big discount during the spring sale Steam, with more on the way: Expansion pack-style DLC announced and a release date for Amid Evil VR, which will see the shooter remastered from the ground up for VR.

From the New Blood publishing collective behind games like Dusk and Ultrakill, Amid Evil is exactly the kind of over-the-top FPS mayhem that will delight old-school PC gaming fans. Packed with ridiculous magical weapons that can be used to fight hordes of evil in gorgeous, varied open-ended levels that are, of course, jam-packed with secrets and mysteries, Amid Evil is simply a delightful game.

Now the entire game has been remade from the ground up for virtual reality called Amid Evil VR. New Blood says, "This isn't some half-baked version of Amid Evil ported to VR, this is a real game," and judging by the trailer below, that's exactly what it is. The weapon can be attached to either hand, allowing you to unleash a range of lightning bolts, spinning ax blades, energy swords and cyber bowling balls on your enemies.

Amid Evil VR launches April 20 at Steam and in the Meta Quest store. The game supports Meta Quest 2 along with SteamVR, which means it should be compatible with many of the best VR headsets like the Valve Index and HTC Vive. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg - the original game will receive "expansion pack style DLC" called Amid Evil: The Black Labyrinth. This is a full-fledged prequel to the events of the main game, in which players will travel to the eponymous Black Labyrinth to defeat the keeper of the aptly named Black Labyrinth Axe. This extension currently does not have a release date, although you can add to Wish List в Steam.

For those of you who are intrigued by all the action here but haven't played the original game yet, you're in luck - the base game is currently on sale with discount 70% в Steam, meaning you can pick up a modern classic for as little as $5.99 USD, though you'll have to hurry as the offer ends March 23rd.

If you want to dive deeper, the FPS New Blood Trilogy bundles you with Amid Evil, Dusk, and Ultrakill at 52% off, for a three-game bundle that costs just $31,25.

For something a little different, New Blood is also developing a Fallout-style isometric RPG with a rather eye-catching retro-futuristic aesthetic.
