Reviews for Sonic Frontiers are out now, and Sega's latest reviews seem to be causing some controversy as the hedgehog goes for a full open-world game for the first time. All of these reviews of Sonic Frontiers are big blue spot points as the core gameplay has moved from 2D to 3D to improve the formula, and now into the open world that the series will presumably take on for years to come.

So what's the verdict? Well, it depends a lot on who you ask, but the general consensus is that this is exactly what Sonic needs, and most Sonic Frontiers reviews boast positive ratings praising the new open world approach. Less favorable reviews for Sonic Frontiers indicate that the level design is flat, the open world challenges are the same as any other mundane game in the genre, and that the platforming is slightly below average.

Sonic fans have mostly come together to at least praise the storytelling. While still filled with your typical Sonic dialogue and characters, there seems to be good storytelling and ideas here, with emotional moments given an appropriate amount of weight as well.

Without going too deep into the cumulative scores, it looks like the reviews for Sonic Frontiers are leaning more towards the positive side, with only a handful of really negative ones at the moment.

However, quite a few outlets (including ours) have not received recall codes, so expect more reviews throughout the week.

Here are the scores for reviews of Sonic Frontiers on some other sites
