The Day Before release date

The Day Before release date is set for November 10, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game was originally scheduled to be released in June 2022, but it was announced that the development of the game would be moved to Unreal Engine 5 to enhance the gameplay with a more advanced engine, pushing back the release in exchange for a full experience.

Playing with open world was delayed again in January 2023 due to a trademark issue, resulting in the game being removed from Steam. It was later revealed that the trademark belonged to a “calendar application manufacturer.” This cast doubt on the existence of The Day Before, as the developers promised to show "raw gameplay" right before the trademark issues arose. Instead, Fntastic released a strange statement in which they call themselves "90s action stars," claiming that players will see the game on November 10th of this year.

There have also been questions about recent gameplay trailers that bear close resemblance to those for Call of Duty and The Last of Us. Fnatic said in a statement:

“We are all living in a time of misinformation and lack of fact checking. Anyone can say anything to get views and everyone will believe it. Misinformation needs to be fought, as it can harm not only us, but also other indie and small/medium studios. It also has a psychological impact on the members of such teams. After The Day Before releases, we'll be thinking about ways to help new developers deal with fakes and dedicating resources to that end. It's easy to destroy. Creating is difficult."

Trailers of the game The Day Before

The first trailer for the game was released in January 2021 and shows several minutes of gameplay along with a commentary track introducing and describing key mechanics. In the trailer, two players explore an abandoned New York City intersection, looting wrecked cars and shops for resources. The main player is ambushed by a rival squad forced to fight back, drawing the attention of a horde of infected.

This was followed by a 13-minute gameplay trailer offering a glimpse into life outside the city. The player travels on and off the road, exploring and robbing stores, gas stations and farms along the way, fighting off other players and the infected, and hiding from the police. The game also shows the player repairing their vehicle, which speaks to the need for vehicle maintenance and a seemingly extensive crafting system.

The third trailer showed several cutscenes in which the player walks through different zones, showing the scope of the content available to players: from the streets of New York and the surrounding area to a gym, a bar, and even a huge shopping mall, reminiscent of those in Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead 2 It also features a small log cabin that gets decorated over time, suggesting that players will be able to create and decorate a base of sorts over time.

After initial posting on the Fnatic YouTube channel, all of these trailers have since been removed, but there is now a Dev Vlog showing the game in various stages of completion, including the current build.

Gameplay The Day Before

We recently saw raw gameplay footage of an MMO where we are introduced to dismantling items on a table to create weapon modifications. These modifications can drastically change the properties of weapons, such as scopes increasing the distance from which enemies can be effectively fired. We also see the player deciphering the four-digit code to disable the alarm while rummaging through the store's contents.

Combat in The Day Before is mostly weapon-focused, with bullets being the fastest and most effective means of destroying players and infected. Weapons make a lot of noise that can alert anyone nearby, so melee weapons are just as important in some situations, especially if you're trying to stay undetected.

Fntastic also boasted that a huge feature of the zombie game will be the ability to customize weapons with attachments found in the loot. The game will also feature custom finishers that will change depending on the weapon equipped.

As an MMO, player interaction is a huge part of the game and the game has a lot of features to help with that, such as voice chat. There are also safe zones, briefly mentioned in the game's first trailer, where players can trade loot with NPCs, complete quests, and meet other players.

It is in these safe zones that players can create "colonies" - The Day Before's version of clans. These are groups of players who work together to have a better chance of fighting off other players and the infected. Playing in a colony increases your chances of survival, but you will have to share the loot you find with other survivors. However, you can go it alone, trying to take all the loot for yourself.

Fntastic also made it clear that vehicles will play a big role in the game, making it easier to move between the city and the countryside. This will make it easier for you to leave the base. Driving on roads is faster but noise can attract unwanted attention, while driving in the countryside can be more stealthy, but a poorly equipped vehicle can get stuck in particularly muddy terrain, forcing players to compromise.
