Stalker 2 release date was announced at the Xbox and Bethesda Games E3 2021 exhibition, where the developers also talked about the gameplay, story and characters. The official name of the game is Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, a continuation of the first part of the series, Shadow of Chernobyl.

The game takes place in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, where mutant creatures, warring factions and strange anomalies live. The trailer shows how these anomalies explode everything that touches them. Stalker 2 trailer

After a hiccup with new details, the E3 2021 trailer shows us a lot of new information about Stalker 2, including a cameo from the series creator. The video shows a scene in which we are sitting around a fire - a place of respite from an unforgiving and dangerous world. The campfire scene is interspersed with gameplay including a firefight at the nuclear plant - with plenty of factions to befriend or dispatch - it looks like the combat will be tough again as there are plenty of enemies with different tactics trying to outsmart you.

We also get our first look at Bloodsucker, as well as an anomaly-infested area where you can throw bolts forward to check for those deadly rifts. The trailer shows a mix of horror, survival and action - while we don't know much about the plot, the expanded open world adds survival mechanics, a life simulation system and advanced AI. The developers have also confirmed that mod support will be available to give freedom to creative players.
