Make sure you take everything from the crash site

Inventory screen does not fit on one screen
When you press I to open your inventory, you will lay out whatever you are carrying on the ground in front of you. It's a little weird, but it's a good organization system, and there's even a light in the inventory that you can turn on so you can see your stuff at night.
The inventory screen is much larger than it first appears. To see everything, you have to move your head (hovering the mouse to the edges of the screen). Sticks and stones that you collect, for example, will be stored on the right. Bones and limbs will be far, far to the right. If you lift your head up, additional containers will appear and food items will be stored on the bottom edge. Be sure to take a good look around how big the inventory screen is so you don't miss anything you're carrying.
To quickly equip items, use a backpack
The inventory screen isn't the only way to access items, which is nice. When faced with an enraged cannibal, you don't want to scatter all your equipment on the ground to get an axe.
Therefore, there is a quick access - your backpack, which can be opened by holding I instead of pressing I. This will bring up your backpack and you can attach items to it, such as an ax or a spear, to quickly grab them and equip them. You can even store human limbs and severed heads for easy access if you're that kind of person.
To attach items to a backpack, open the inventory in the normal way and select the backpack (it's at the top of the inventory screen). Items that cannot be attached will automatically be greyed out, but all others can be attached by selecting them.
Build a shelter to survive
In the starting area, you'll find a reflective silver tarp in one of the crates. Take it, but don't put it on the ground yet. As you leave the crash site and head further into the mountains, keep an eye out for the sticks lying on the ground. To build a basic shelter, you will need sticks and a tarp.
Once you find them and feel that you are in a reasonably safe place, open your inventory and take the tarp (it will be stored in the upper right corner of the inventory). Equip it and look down. You will see a square outline on the ground, which can be rotated if necessary.
Left click to place the tarp, then move your mouse over one of the corners and left click again. You will automatically place the stick under the corner of the tarp, propping it up, and your base shelter is ready. You can now use the hideout to save your game or to sleep to pass the time. If you wish, you can support other corners with sticks, but one stick is enough to save the game or rest.
To remove the cover, break the stick with an axe. This will cause the tarp to curl up on the ground and you can add it back to your inventory.
Press E to collect food, hold E to eat
In Game Sons of the Forest you will find many food sources, but not all can be eaten. Items such as berries, mushrooms, and herbs can poison you. As you scour the area, you will see clues about food items on bushes or logs, but be careful! Press E if you want to collect these items. If you hold E, you will automatically eat it, even if you didn't mean to.
Items such as berries and mushrooms are marked with a question mark until you discover their effect. Once you make sure the food source is safe (like blueberries), it will be marked with a green icon and you can safely eat it when you find it.
Light a fire by breaking sticks
Item crafting instructions are pretty unobtrusive in the game Sons of the Forest, but sometimes they are so minimalistic that they can be completely overlooked. If you want to build a small fire to keep warm or cook a quick meal, start by collecting two sticks and a lighter in your inventory.
Holding a stick in one hand, look down at the ground. It's easy to miss, but you'll see two faint outlines on the ground, made by dotted lines. This is an indicator that you can break the stick into smaller pieces. Left click and you will break the stick over your knee and then do it again. A prompt will appear that you need to light a fire. When it's lit, hold down E and you can add any cooking items to the flame.
For now, avoid the cannibals
As you move through the forest, you will quickly begin to meet the inhabitants of the island, and for now it is best to avoid them. Many of them don't show overt hostility, just curious or scared, but this can change quickly if you get too close to them.
And keeping your distance can be difficult. Many of the locals will follow you, sometimes over long distances, and if you build a camp, they may come to explore it. If possible, run away from locals who you think are getting too close. Some may throw rocks to warn you, others (I met one with a large club) will attack if you linger too long. If you have to fight, a tactical ax is a good weapon, but you'll want to craft a spear and bow with arrows as soon as possible.
You can access the original building system
