When Overwatch went offline on October 3, leading up to the launch of the long-awaited Overwatch 2, some hardcore gamers who didn't know what to do during the downtime turned to the Roblox Overwatch clone to satisfy their desire to play the popular hero shooter. . OverblockThe Roblox sandbox version of Activision Blizzard's cult game is similar to Overwatch - or at least as similar as can be, with lower fidelity graphics, blocky characters, and far fewer features.
In Overblox, Robloxians can play characters like Reaper, Tracer, and Mercy. The game looks and functions similar to Overwatch - in a way. It's an alternative to Overwatch, just like watching a pirated movie recorded in a movie theater with an iPhone camera is the same as watching the same thing as going to the movies. However, the game seems to be quite popular as a free version of Overwatch. Overblox launched on Roblox in 2018 and since then Roblox has played the game over 4,7 million times.
Overwatch is not the first game to be honored with a Roblox clone, as there are several Roblox games that are essentially fan-made versions of popular shooter games. With titles such as Counter Blox (a CS:GO knockoff) and Fortblox (a Fortnite clone), these versions of the games share many of the same core game elements they copy but lack their extensive features.
As the GamesRadar Reportseven professional players have dipped their toes in the blocky waters of Overblox. Official London Spitfire Twitter account posted an image of a member of the SparkR team playing the game with the caption: "We're doing a great job with this whole 'no Overwatch' issue, thanks for asking." The tweet got over 7000 likes.
Overwatch Content Creator Aquamarine has published an in-game image from Overblox on Twitter, saying "I thought Overwatch was down, but it's still here" and then tweeted a video of Overblox gameplay. Aquamarine's initial tweet got over 8000 likes.
Overblox wasn't the only way fans celebrated the final moments of the game's sunset. Other celebrations included in-game parties and messages within Overwatch that read, “Even the best adventures come to an end, but new things are just around the corner. Thank you heroes! See you on October 4th!” and "see you on the other side."
