Everyone knows what Doom is all about when it comes to FPS games, but how about some stunningly colorful Doom-style pixel art that sees you destroying aliens in a variety of sci-fi-inspired environments? Personally, we think that a few seconds of viewing Mala Petaka should be enough to convince you of its premise: using all the classic weapons you'd expect from a GZDoom-powered game, such as the shotgun, grenade launcher, plasma rifle, and more, you'll be able to take down your enemies in frenzied combat.

Mala Petaka, which means "bad luck" or "disaster" in Indonesian, puts you in the shoes of "an evil amnesiac who just wants to kill all the ugly green aliens and annoying drones he encounters while trying to regain his memory." The game was created by Indonesian indie developer Sanditio Bayu and features a rousing chiptune soundtrack from several Indonesian chiptune composers, including Remedmatika, Shakaboyd and Son of a Bit.

Along with the smooth and fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay, Mala Petaka includes a range of useful power-ups for players to collect, such as time freeze, rampage, and invulnerability. Each weapon has an alternate fire mode, giving you even more options in combat as you take on the waves of opponents that stand between you and your precious memories.

The levels are also non-linear, branching off from a central node that allows you to progress to each level in the order you choose. You can also choose from six different difficulty levels to suit your personal preference, ranging from super easy to instakill mode, which should really test your reflexes.

You can watch Mala Petaka in action below:

Previously available through Sanditio's Itch.io Page, Mala Petaka is now on Steam, and you can download the demo to play it right now while you wait for the full game to arrive.

If that's your thing, then perhaps the Doom-inspired Half-Life "sequel" will be to your taste. If you're looking to push the boundaries, the remake of the 2009 PC classic Solium Infernum looks like a great crossover between Doom and Civilization.
