Sony Gran Turismo , which stars Lord of the Rings' Orlando Bloom and Stranger Things' David Harbour.
Sony announced earlier this year that it would be making a Gran Turismo movie, which is certainly a choice for a series that isn't exactly known for its storytelling. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Stranger Things and Black Widow star David Harbor will be joining the film, although details of his role have not yet been revealed. And shortly after, it was announced that Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom had also been cast in the film.
District 9 and Chappie will be directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Jason Hall (American Sniper). PlayStation Productions Assad Kizilbash and Carter Swan will produce, along with Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti. A Gran Turismo film has been in development since 2013, but it is unclear whether it will be the same film or another attempt at making one;
Although the film is about racing, the plot itself sounds a little strange. Seemingly based on a true story, the film follows a Gran Turismo-playing teenager whose virtual driving prowess allowed him to win a series of Nissan competitions, leading him to become a full-fledged professional race car driver. The teen will be played by Archie Madekwe, who co-starred with Jason Momoa (Aquaman) on See. on Apple TV+;
Harbor will apparently play a retired driver who teaches Madekwe's character how to drive, while Bloom will play "a hungry marketer who sells auto racing... and may also believe in the art of it," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This isn't the only live-action adaptation for Sony IP in development. Earlier this year, Sony announced that a God of War series was in the works at Amazon Prime, and a Horizon Zero Dawn project was in the works at Netflix. Although these two projects don't seem to be as far along as Gran Turismo yet.
Gran Turcimo is currently scheduled for release on August 11, 2023, with filming finally taking place next week in Europe. ..;
