Included in Overwatch 2, the Ramattra tank can get very large. The thirty-sixth hero of the Blizzard FPS game was unveiled during the Overwatch League Grand Finals, in which the Dallas Fuel claimed their first championship title in a seven-match thriller against the two-time San Francisco Shock champions that heralded the coming of esports. the debut season of the Overwatch 2 league. Now, several members of the multiplayer development team have spoken out about the design of Ramattra ahead of its release, along with Season 2 of Overwatch 6 December XNUMX.

GamerBraves spoke with Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson, art director Dion Rogers, and lead narrative designer Gavin Jurgens-Fayhry about the decisions that went into creating the omnic juggernaut. Ramattra transitions between two forms - his standard Omnic form, where he fights with a staff that shoots a stream of projectiles and a barrier, and his Nemesis form. Rogers explains that Nemesis's form was created by Ramattra himself, and describes it as "pretty huge."

With an enlarged body and altered voice in Nemesis Mode, Ramattra attempts to close down his opponents using strikes that break through barriers. Dawson notes that "While he's not overly large in his omnic form, he looks like a normal sized tank. But when he transforms, you really see this visual change and his growth – his whole silhouette just takes on a different shape.” Rogers adds that "there's such a big change in his Nemesis form - it's probably one of the biggest models we've done, and there's a distance we can't go beyond the world."

The team also talks about how this double silhouette influences the design of Ramattra skins, as it's important to be able to recognize its current shape at a glance. “It's a really fun challenge, and I think we've come up with some really fun and themed skins that fit,” Rogers says. “He still needs to be Ramatra, even in this Nemesis form. We can't lose his personality when we're visually trying to create the next skin for him."

As mentioned, Ramattra is an engineer himself and was responsible for creating his Nemesis form. Jürgens-Füry expands on this: "I always find it interesting because he was made to fight humanity and he decided he wasn't lethal enough." As the leader of Sector Zero, Ramattra justifies "any means necessary to protect his fellow omnics". Rogers said during the hero reveal that Ramattra is "the start of our push for general Overwatch lore", explaining how Omnics are finite and what can't be done anymore.

It looks like Ramattra will have a big impact on the world of Overwatch, both on and off the battlefield. You can read the full interview with Blizzard's Alec Dawson, Dion Rogers, and Gavin Jurgens-Fayhri at Gamer Braves.
