Last week I went to Capcom and spent some time getting started on Resident Evil 4 Remake. In the short time that I spent with the game, which is expected to be released on March 23, in the next year, it seems that a lot has changed ... for the better.

Let me start by saying that, in essence, it is still Resident Evil 4. Of course, I can't speak for the rest of the game, but as far as Leon's first date with the Los Ganados horde goes, Capcom has - so far - done a great job with the remake.

We talked about everything about the Resident Evil 4 remake and what we'd like to see next in the series. When it comes to the Resident Evil remake, we're expecting better graphics, improved combat, and a lot less junk. Fortunately, after getting to know REmake 4 combat, I wanted more, and here's why.

First of all, gone are the days when you had to stand still to shoot a pistol. It was the first thing I noticed as soon as I got access to the weapon, and you can be sure that there was a sigh of relief as a result. This was to be expected, but what I didn't expect was how powerful and fun using Leon's knife became.

In the original Resident Evil 4, you could use Leon's knife to cut open loot boxes or even attack and stun enemies when necessary. However, in the original, I forgot the knife in favor of a weapon because it's Resident Evil and I love to shoot.

In Resident Evil 4 Remake, however, there's a lot more fun to be had with Leon's melee weapons. It took me a hot minute to deal with him, but once I did, it became an even bloodier holiday. Leon's knife is tied to a kind of stamina bar, so you need to use it carefully, and not like Michael Myers on Los Ganados.

Additionally, these weapons are tied to specific finishers when you weaken an enemy enough; just get close, attack, and prepare to flinch from a terrible finisher, or, if you're me and you're generally bad at games, prepare to flinch from an equally brutal incoming attack when you land your finisher too late. Even better, if you have the courage, use this knife to fight the terrifying man with a chainsaw.

And for lovers of secretive movement, this has its own charm. By crouching - yes, you can now crouch whenever you want - you can approach certain enemies undetected. Once you get close enough, you can press the melee button and perform a nasty stealth kill. Admittedly, at times it was reminiscent of Far Cry 6, but it was still a lot of fun.

Capcom also took into account the fact that this makes Leon's melee weapons quite powerful and introduced a weapon degradation system. After a limited number of uses, players will need to repair the knife, but how do they do it? Although I did not get to meet this sinister character, at the Resident Evil Showcase we were shown a merchant, and, apparently, he will be the one who will repair our knives.

What do you think of Leon's updated tool?
