Over a thousand raiders took part in the world's first race to complete a raid Destiny 2 in competitive mode, which increases the difficulty of the event for the first 48 hours of the raid. Each member of the winning team will receive a special raid belt that Bungie has designed specifically for the winners of the event. However, all players who complete the raid within the first 48 hours will receive a special emblem.
As befits Bungie, the raid is packed with puzzles and challenging platforming, making it a serious challenge for even the game's most elite players. One zone in particular features planetary alignment, a mechanic that players first saw in the Lightfall promotional trailer. Many raid mechanics emphasize the interaction of Light and Darkness.
Nezarec is a Tormenter, a new enemy type for Lightfall with powerful attacks and the ability to take a lot of damage. Players may recognize Nezarek's name from Season of Plunder. Players collected parts of his body hidden throughout the solar system to stop Eramis from collecting and using them against the Light. This creature is also the namesake of weapons and equipment such as the exotic warlock helmet Nezarec's Sin and the exotic glaive Nezarec's Whisper. The Delicate Tomb arc fusion rifle is also related to Nezarek.
After collecting the relics in the Season of Plunder, Mythrax combined them to create a tea that awakened Osiris from his slumber after Savathun assumed his form and left him in exchange for Mara Sov's commitment to remove the worm that possessed the Witch Queen. However, even then the Guardians understood the danger of using the forces of Darkness of the disciple of the Witness to awaken Osiris.
Bungie has subtly hinted that Nezarek could be the final boss of the raid. Players recently reported hearing Nezarek's voice cues around Neomuna when they had certain Nezarek-related weapons equipped.
