Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares Encounter Breakdown

Although the Hard in the Paint team completed the raid in under 2,5 hours as part of Bungie's World's First raid, that doesn't mean it's easy, as the team members are some of the highest-caliber players in the ecosystem Destiny 2. Most casual players will struggle with the raid, especially if they plan to complete it in competitive mode.

Here is a description of how to complete the various steps.

Introduction

This stage is the opening of the raid. You'll start by crossing the entrance area, going forward until you can't go any further, and then take the path on the left around the outside of the ship. As you go around the corner, you will fight with enemies, and in the distance you will see a large statue. Use it to guide you forward. Once you pass it, follow the corridors to the right and then the winding path to the first meeting.

Cataclysm

When you reach this point, you will be given the instruction to "Survive the Onslaught."

The mechanics of this stage require two people to simultaneously shoot at a Traveler-like orb that provides a buff called "Field of Light". The goal is to move the sphere to the other side of the arena by passing it through nodes that look like spirals.

Starting this encounter will start the Sweeping Horror debuff timer, which will wipe out the team if the following actions are not completed in time. At this point, players not in charge of shooting the orbs will need to melee kill two psions, which will then spawn Tormetra. They should kill Tormeter quickly, which will buy them valuable time before the Sweeping Horror debuff wipes out the team. This will also cause the next node to appear. Keep in mind that they will spawn one at a time.

From here, the two players who shot the initial orb must work as a team to chain up orb buffs as their teammates clear extras throughout the encounter. One Guardian will shoot the orb and the other will go to the node, which, if the Guardian has the Field of Light buff, will contain the orb that will be consumed. A beam of light from the Traveler's orb indicates the direction of the next one. Once the Guardian gets to this orb and shoots it, the Traveler's orb at spawn will let the team know where they need to go next. Another Tormentir will appear and players will need to clear it again to spawn a node. They must continue to alternate in this manner until the arena is cleared. Each time, players can expect to connect 4 or 5 nodes and clear around four Tormentators to complete the encounter.

When your team completes this task, you will again need to make your way along the corridor, following the circle, and when you see a platform with a black object in front of it, shoot at it and it will throw you through a large opening.

Follow the enemies and then make your way along the winding paths again. You'll then be taken to another area where you'll have to fight Nezarek's graduate student as well as numerous extras. Once you get past this part, climb the tree branches and platforms higher and higher, and then follow the paths and winding roots again. You'll then need to clear out even more additives, after which you'll head to a platform where, using the same platform mechanics, you'll be able to shoot a diamond and launch yourself across the road. At the end of this path, you will encounter another Nezarek graduate student who you must defeat.

Then continue to make your way higher again, which will lead you to another corridor where you will be told to "Enter the Root".

Sission

Note that time is of the essence in this encounter, as players can complete tasks within a limited amount of time. It is also necessary to go down from the platform in order to cross the gap and continue climbing.

Start by dividing into two teams of three. Two players from each team must remain on their side while a third player, called the runner, will walk back and forth across the gap. The two players left behind will be tasked with clearing the chasm. Note that at certain points you will have to fight more difficult enemies, such as the Barrier Colossus. In addition, some enemies will be covered by shields, and only players with the Field of Light buff will be able to damage them.

Shoot the sphere to receive the Field of Light buff, which, when shot, will transfer to all Guardians in its aura. As in the previous encounter, they will indicate nodes that need to be shot to advance in the mission. However, only those players who have the Field of Light buff can activate these nodes. It's basically the same as the first meeting, but now there's a dark side and a light side.

Runners must shoot at the black object to launch the launcher. However, they must correctly position themselves opposite the launcher in order to overcome it without death each time.

guide to Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares

One way to solve this problem is through Destiny 2 Raid Secrets subreddit, is the following:

  • A single runner on each side follows and fires at the orb indicators.
  • That player then returns to the spawn point to receive the Field of Light buff.
  • One of the players on duty at the adds on both sides must also return to the spawn point, where a shot at the sphere will refresh his buff. The other continues to remove adds.
  • After refreshing the buff, the runner will continue moving. When they return to refresh their buff, another add-on killer will join them at the spawn point, while his teammate, still having the buff, will continue killing add-ons. This way, players can continue to alternate which of the two players on each side will renew their buff along with the runner.

If you time it right and change in sequence, you can get to the point where you can continue to attack the root.

You will then come to a portal that requires players to find and shoot several different spirals that will open the portal. Shoot them in the given order, following the beams. Please note that all team members must be near the portal for it to open.

After completing this, you will return to the Cataclysm again.
