MetaQuest Pro this is the latest headset that supports Oculus Air Link. While you still need a decent gaming PC, this opens up your game library even more by allowing you to wirelessly stream VR games via the Quest platform for free. This feature has been popular on Oculus Quest 2, but unfortunately Air Link doesn't work as well on the Quest Pro right now.

While Oculus Air Link is critical to Quest's claim to be the best VR headset, many have reported Wi-Fi performance issues on the Meta Quest Pro. Unfortunately, this means that anyone who wants to play the best VR games on PC through Quest Pro may experience stuttering issues. Luckily, a fix is on the way, though we don't know a timeline.

Responding to Virtual Desktop creator Guy Godin on Twitter, Bruno Zendon, senior director of wireless technologies at Meta, clarified that this is a “known issue.” Specifically, Tsendon confirmed: “[The] fix was not ready to go live. It's very likely that this will be fixed in the next update and the DFS feeds will be as good as they were in Quest 2."

However, this update may take longer than planned. Following the Meta Q3 2022 earnings statement the tech giant laid off 9,4 employees last month as it reported a massive $11 billion loss. Unfortunately, earlier today, Cendong confirmed (via Twitter) that there were layoffs in the wireless team as well. This is not surprising, as Reality Labs, Meta's VR arm, alone suffered $3,7 billion in operating losses, and it is not known how this will affect day-to-day operations.

In the meantime, Quest Pro owners have two alternatives for wireless PC VR game streaming. You can use Oculus Link via a USB 3 Type-C cable, which negates the wireless advantage of a standalone headset. Or, you can purchase Virtual Desktop through the Meta Store, a third-party app that costs $14,99 / £14,99.
