There are some real Valheim building experts creating incredible structures in the Iron Gate early access survival game. Thankfully, some of them are more than happy to share their techniques with other players, and the latest project from one of these amazing architects will teach you some great strategies for creating the perfect roof designs in a crafting game.

Living up to its name, The Friendly Gamer is on a mission to help Valheim players design steeper, more realistic rooftops for their homes and other buildings. As they explain, in real life, roofing tends to extend over the walls of buildings to ensure they provide adequate coverage and leave room for rain to run off. Using small one meter wooden beams, they show how to build a "roof frame" around the edges of your buildings to build on.

Once you get the basic structure out of the way, Player Friendly will have plenty of opportunities to advance to the next level. Taking two different approaches to a round building as an example, they show how to create a basic roof frame for a round dome structure, or an extended arrowhead shaped frame that gives a fancier roof design. They also explain how to build a tiered roof for an even more dramatic finish, with clear and concise examples.

you can see them roofing strategy diagrams on Reddit Valheim, where they have already received very positive feedback from the community. One commenter even remarked, "I'm a real roofer and the shit you guys do is impressive and actually applies to real life." As if that wasn't enough, they have another set of alternative designs that they describe as being "built from the inside, not the outside."

If you don't quite understand what that means, or you're more of a visual learner, they also translate this into a helpful six part video series. At the time of writing, the first two parts are currently available - the first is a brief introduction to more realistic roof and the second shows how to build a round roof and fill in the gaps in your roof in a way that is both functional and pleasing to the eye.

The friendly player is no stranger to quirky builds - developer Iron Gate chose them for their August presentation. Walheim Build of the Month, a pretty stunning bridge with (you guessed it) incredibly detailed roof tower design. What better way to start decorating your builds than with their top tips?

With the recent emergence of Valheim in Game Pass and adding crossplay to one of the best co-op games on PC, it's time to start your adventure. We still don't have a set release date for the major Valheim Mistlands update, but we'll be sure to keep you up to date with all the latest news as it becomes available.
