Ryan Murphy is bringing back some familiar faces in a new setting for the cast and characters of American Horror Story Season 11. Season 11 of American Horror Story, subtitled "NYC," is set in New York City in the 1970s and 80s and focuses on the LGBTQ+ community as it faces the threat of a serial killer. It's unclear whether American Horror Story season 11 will connect to previous installments in the franchise, but the New York City setting and reported time jumps suggest there's room for crossovers.
American Horror Story season 11 is missing some big names, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe and Frances Conroy. However, in addition to new AHS cast members and frequent co-stars Ryan Murphy, American Horror Story: NYC also boasts returning cast members: Billie Lourd, Denis O'Hare, Leslie Grossman, Patti LuPone and Zachary Quinto, the latter of whom has not appeared on the series since second season. Denis O'Hara as Henry
Frequent American Horror Story star Denis O'Hare returns for season 11 as a character named Henry. O'Hara recently starred in the American Horror Story spin-off season two episode "Dollhouse," in which he played the father of his character Spaulding from AHS: Coven. However, the actor's other roles in American Horror Story include Larry Harvey in Murder House, Stanley in Freak Show, Liz Taylor in Hotel, Dr. Elias Cunningham/William Van Henderson in Roanoke and Holden Vaughn in Red Tide." O'Hara is also known for his films "Milk," "Dallas Buyers Club" and "True Blood."
Leslie Grossman as Barbara
Another member of Ryan Murphy's unofficial acting troupe, Leslie Grossman returns to AHS: NYC to play the role of Barbara. Grossman's past characters in American Horror Story include Meadow in Cult, Coco in Apocalypse, Margaret in 1984, and Ursula/Calico in Double Role. Other famous projects of the actress include “Love, Victor”, “10 Things I Hate About You” (TV series), “What I Like About You” and “Popular”.
Billie Lourd as Hannah
After a small role in American Horror Story: Red Tide, Billie Lourd returns to AHS: NYC as Hannah. Lourd has become a favorite among American Horror Story fans, having previously played characters such as Winter in Cult, Mallory in Apocalypse and Montana in 1984. As the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher, Lourd had her most prominent role in the Star Wars sequel, where she played Lieutenant Kaydel Co Connix. Of course, Lourd's other notable acting credits include "Booksmart" and Ryan Murphy's "Scream Queens."
Zachary Quinto as Sam
Actor Zachary Quinto returns to American Horror Story for the first time since the second season of AHS: Asylum (2012), in which he played Dr. Oliver Thredson/Bloody Face. Quinto stars in AHS: NYC as a character named Sam, who is unlikely to be another secret serial killer. Of course, outside of American Horror Story, Quinto is best known for his roles as Spock in the Star Trek reboot and Sylar in Heroes. The American Horror Story season 11 actor can also be seen in NOS4A2, Snowden, The Boys in the Band and 24.
Russell Tovey as Patrick
New American Horror Story actor Russell Tovey will play Detective Patrick in season 11. He is also known for his roles as George Sands in Being Human, Raj in The History Boys, and Kevin in Searching.
Charlie Carver as Adam
In addition to being a producer and writer on AHS: NYC, Charlie Carver also plays the role of Adam. Season 11 of American Horror Story, set in New York City, marks Carver's debut in the franchise, but he has previously worked with Ryan Murphy on the Netflix films The Boys in the Band and Ratched. Carver is also known for his appearances alongside his twin brother in the TV series Batman, Teen Wolf and Desperate Housewives.
Joe Mantello as Gino
Joe Mantello will star in American Horror Story season 11 as Gino. AHS: NYC marks Mantello's debut in the franchise, but he has worked with Ryan Murphy on several occasions. Although Mantello is best known for his stage career, he directed the Murphy-produced film Boys in the Band and starred in Murphy's television projects such as Hollywood and The Spectator.

Sandra Bernhard as Fran: Prior to AHS Season 11, Bernhardt appeared briefly in American Horror Story Season 8 as Satanist cult leader Hannah. Bernhard is best known for her career as a stand-up comedian, appearing as herself in various television shows and films, and for roles in the films Roseanne, The King of Comedy, and Pose.
Isaac Powell as Theo: Powell made his AHS debut in season 10's "Death Valley" as Troy, a college student abducted by aliens. The actor could also be seen in Dear Evan Hansen, Indoor Boys and Modern Love.
Patti LuPone as Cathy: Broadway legend Patti LuPone returns to AHS for the first time since Coven Season 3, where she played Joan Ramsey. LuPone has also appeared in films and TV series such as Ryan Murphy's Hollywood, Last Christmas, Witness, Oz, Pose and 30 Rock. However, she is best known for playing the roles of Eva Peron in the Broadway play Evita and Fantine in the London play Les Misérables.
Sis as Dunaway: Previously, Sis had a small role in one of the episodes of the series “The Last O.G.” in 2018. As part of the musical theater community, Sis starred in the North American revival of Oklahoma! and is a prominent advocate for Black trans inclusion on Broadway.
Kal Penn as Mac Marzar: A character who appears to be working with Patrick on a case in AHS: NYC. Penn is best known for his roles in the films Harold & Kumar, House, How I Met Your Mother, The Revenant and Smile 2022.
Kyle Beltran as Morris: Best known for his stage career, American Horror Story Season 11 alum Kyle Beltran has also starred in American Rust, Inventing Anna, David Makes Man, and Equality.
Rebecca Diane as Alana: Having starred in American Horror Story and its spin-off American Horror Stories, Rebecca Diane is becoming a familiar face in the AHS franchise. However, she previously played Maria Wyckoff in AHS: Death Valley, Elsa Peretti in Ryan Murphy's Halston, Sarah Bernhardt in Tesla and Sister Emanuelle in Novitiate.
