One of Nicolas Cage's best films in recent memory, Color Out of Space is an impressive attempt to bring to life Lovecraft's ethereal monster, which in this case is the color emitted by a strange meteorite. The film centers on a family who are constantly terrorized by a color that begins to transform them and everything around their farm.
Dunwich Horror / The Dunwich Horror (1997)
A free adaptation of The Dunwich Horror was undertaken by American director Daniel Haller in the seventies. Like the novel, Lovecraft's film features a supernatural ritual from the mystical book Necronomicon. The film follows an occult expert who tries to save a student who is planned to be used as a sacrificial lamb for a nefarious ritual.
From the outside / From Beyond (1986)
Another great attempt to highlight Lovecraft's love of sci-fi horror is the film From Beyond. The film's plot centers on two scientists who use a device designed to stimulate the pineal gland.
