Search best batman games on PC? The Caped Crusader has been defending the streets of Gotham for years in various media franchises. And, naturally, the philanthropist-turned-superhero also infiltrates the world of video games from time to time.

Whether it's fighting criminals in the dank halls of Arkham Asylum, or a more carefree stroll through Gotham as its LEGO counterpart, there's something for all Dark Knight fans out there for all Dark Knight fans, although most of it comes in the form of adventure games.

If you haven't delved into Batman games on PC yet or are looking for something new, then this list will help you. We'll only be covering games where Batman or Gotham is the star - there's no Injustice or Multiversus here, however good they are - or anything else that's not readily available anymore. With those caveats in mind, here are the best Batman games for PC in 2023.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman: Arkham Asylum

For many, Batman: Arkham Asylum will be their first journey into the world of Batman. Despite being released shortly after The Dark Knight, Arkham Asylum was not a game related to the film. Instead, it transported players to the titular facility in all its dark, grimy glory. Batman's longtime enemy, the Joker, manages to take over the orphanage, and our hero seeks to regain control over the course of the game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum pioneered a fighting style that allowed Batman to take on multiple enemies with ease while dodging and retaliating in a satisfying manner. Being the first game in the Arkham franchise, it seems a bit simplistic these days, but Arkham Asylum still makes the dream of being Batman come true. You will also see this free fight in other superhero games like Marvel's Spider-Man making it the most influential game on this list.

Best Batman Games - Arkham City: Batman Fights Thugs

Batman: Arkham City

Batman: Arkham City takes you out of the asylum and into a much larger open world. Much of the gameplay is still familiar to Batman's antics in Arkham Asylum, but more gadgets and enemy types have been added to the game now. The open world also means more side content, breaking up the main story as you encounter new characters - but avoid hunting down each collectible if you want to keep your sanity.

This sequel also introduces some new playable characters via DLC - Catwoman, Robin and Nightwing. While the Catwoman DLC was the only one to feature more story content, being able to play as other characters was a nice change of pace. Definitely one of the best games in the list of the best Batman games for PC in 2023.

The best Batman games - Arkham Origins: Batman stood among the burning boxes

Batman: Arkham Origins

Taking players back to the events before the first two games, Batman: Arkham Origins was the first installment in the franchise not created by Rocksteady Studios. It shows Batman in his early days of fighting crime, being hunted by both assassins and corrupt police.

While Batman: Arkham Origins is one of the less memorable installments of the Arkham franchise, it still provides an interesting take on the superhero. It's not exactly an origin story, but it still offers some new perspectives on both Batman and the world he's trying to protect.

The best Batman games - Arkham Origins Blackgate: Batman fights armed thugs with Catwoman in the background

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate

Released alongside the main game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate was originally intended for handheld devices only. Having received an improved PC port less than a year later, Blackgate is a side-scroller rather than a fully open-world title.

While this limitation is clearly related to the original hardware that Blackgate was designed for, most of what you would expect from an Arkham game is still there. You'll use gadgets to move around the area, taking out gangs with typical Batman agility, and the story introduces some of the main characters in a short amount of time.

Best Batman Games - Arkham Knight: Batman Jumps Out of the Batmobile to Punch the Enemy

Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman: Arkham Knight didn't have the best start on PC, with many players experiencing poor performance and many game-breaking bugs. After a number of fixes and easier access to better hardware, Arkham Knight is now a delight for PC gamers. Visually, this is the most impressive game in the franchise, especially during the numerous episodes with the Batmobile. The Batmobile itself plays a big role in Arkham Knight as you race through the rain-soaked streets of Gotham City.

Gotham Knights

So we know that technically Gotham Knights is not a Batman game, but it briefly features the Caped Crusader. After the death of Bruce Wayne, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and the Red Hood must protect Gotham City from villains who have seized the opportunity to take control.

It borrows stealth gameplay from other Arkham games, even if it doesn't follow the same storyline, and the combat is more of an action role-playing game. The game also features a game-wide co-op mode so that you and your friend can ambush criminals in tandem.

Batman: The Telltale Series

While the Arkham games did allow for some detective work, there was more emphasis on traveling the world and fighting the bad guys. Instead, Batman: The Telltale Series slows things down a bit, allowing you to play as both Bruce Wayne and his Batman alter ego. The second series, Batman: The Enemy Within, improves on the story even further, with a better script overall and a satisfying ending.

The best Batman games - Lego Batman: Batman & Robin

LEGO Batman: The Video Game

For a more carefree experience, LEGO Batman: The Videogame is the way to go. This is another classic LEGO game, taking the usually stoic Batman series and adding a lot more humor and silly scenes to the mix. Like most LEGO games, this game is more fun to play in co-op.

The best Batman games - Lego Batman 2: Batman on Ambulance

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

As you might have guessed, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has more Batman and more DC characters in general. Batman still takes the lead, complete with a new set of costumes and gadgets, but some other familiar faces like Superman and the Flash are now making their first appearances. You even get an open world to explore similar to later Arkham games.

Lego Batman 3: Batman with a bunch of other DC heroes, including Superman

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

LEGO Batman 2 was still a Batman game, with only a handful of DC characters. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, on the other hand, goes even further, bringing the roster to over 150 characters across the DC Universe. It may be the least Batman-centric game on this list, but it still gets a decent array of new tools to play with during your space adventures.

The best Batman games - Arkham VR: Hand reaches for the Batman costume

Batman: Arkham VR

Batman: Arkham VR is an interesting game, not only as a Batman game, but for VR in general. Virtual reality technology was still in its infancy when this game was released, giving players an idea of what could happen. Arkham VR won't blow you away like modern VR games, but it's still fun to tinker with Batman's various gadgets and solve easy puzzles.

That concludes our list of the best Batman games for PC in 2023. Newbies have a lot to go through, although you may have already purchased and fully played some of these games as freebies on the Epic Games Store.
