You know you have a good game in your hands when its demo Steam Next Fest manages to penetrate - and rise! - in the list of the 50 most played games in just one week. You know a game is worth checking out when critics and consumers flock to the demo, eager to see what all the hype is about. UNDECEMBER has already acquired something of a cult following - and it hasn't even come out yet.

The character creator in UNDECEMBER is just great.
Perhaps it's because the cross-platform hack 'n' slash RPG does something out of the ordinary. In UNDECEMBER, you take on the role of a rune hunter: a hero called upon to stop the birth of the 13th god of this world, who is destined to be evil and unholy. The remaining 12 gods shared their powers and gifts with the rune hunters, giving people the power to prevent the birth of their terrible brother or sister. You have to find these powers and use them for yourself.
There is no specific class for this in UNDECEMBER. When you load up the game, you choose a male or female character, customize your appearance, and you're off to the world. There is no shaman, demon hunter, warrior, paladin; instead, you build your character using gears and skills of your choosing as you progress;
Some of the stats will be familiar—strength, agility, and intelligence are essential to character creation—but mostly you'll have to find runes and equip gear to become the God-fighting hero you potentially can be. Placing skill runes (which grant skills) and link runes (which grant passive buffs) on the grid will improve your character - and almost everything you do in the game will allow you to strengthen them and become better and better at fighting the forces of darkness.
If that's not enough, you'll also be able to equip weapons, armor, and accessories to provide even more granular control over your character. In other games like this, you might be locked into a certain playstyle depending on your class... but UNDECEMBER wants you to be in control of everything you do as you build up your strength and prepare to take on the most powerful beings in the universe. On top of all that, there's even a Zodiac system that lets you control your core stats and the stats they give;
For character creation fans and min/max apologists, this game is definitely worth checking out. Especially if you like challenging bosses with dynamic attacks and different tricks that encourage you to constantly experiment with skill combinations and gear settings. If there's anything we can learn from the demo in Steamthat has attracted over 16 players is that we know it will be a game worth exploring at launch. You can even play the game with a tablet thanks to full tablet support, making you feel even more involved in the action.
