The Terraformers release date is almost here and the game is adding some very cool new features as it exits Early Access for Steam and GOG to launch the full version 1.0. Mars-based space city builder adds the ability to build cities on the two Martian moons Phobos and Deimos, as well as a few other additional customizations.
In Terraformers, you build a colony on the Red Planet, explore and establish cities on its vast surface, discovering resource deposits, giant crystalline caves, and other natural wonders. As the name suggests, you'll have the ability to actively terraform a planet to change its very being and climate - whether that's by launching a dormant volcano, building huge space mirrors to channel the sun's energy, or strategically colliding with nearby icy asteroids.
As part of Update 1.0, the Asteroid Lab team introduced the ability to establish cities on two of the moons of Mars. Phobos and Deimos are both captureable and you will need to complete a specific blueprint to initially base a city on each of them. They are tiny compared to the surface of Mars (and even compared to our own moon), but each of them has unique bonuses.
Settling on Phobos gives you access to the most interconnected city layout in the game, allowing you to more cleverly connect your buildings and upgrades. In addition, it has access to aquifers and will increase your tourism and trade potential. Deimos, meanwhile, has titanium deposits and anomalies, which means you'll get extra science from buildings built there, as well as lowering the cost of future space projects, making it a great starting point for other space missions.
Terraformers 1.0 update also includes eight levels of unlockable content, 17 new buildings, an additional space project, three new technologies and three new leaders. Two new events you can encounter are mineable asteroids in space and a potentially planet-destroying meteor that you'll have to contend with. Additionally, the game allows players to predict population growth, and has improved visuals, tutorials, and tooltips.
