S-level

Captain Marvel

There is simply no better tank in Midnight Suns than Captain Marvel. Right off the bat, her ability to hit as hard as she takes makes her a great choice for any team roster. She signs even more, both figuratively and literally, when she activates her binary ability after three card plays, making her already excellent moveset even stronger.

Magic

The environment is a powerful tool in Midnight Suns and no one uses it better than Magik. Her ability to move enemies exactly where you want with her Limbo Portal can be invaluable for AOE abilities as well as making the best use of environmental hazards. Her legendary Darkchild ability is also considered one of the best in the game, giving Magik invulnerability and taunting every enemy for a turn.

Spiderman

Spider-Man is as fast as he is deadly, just like his arachnid namesake. Chain Strike deals high damage and can attack up to four enemies when upgraded, making it perfect for taking down weakened enemies. Meanwhile, Opportunist can give you the extra power you need to secure a knockout by removing the environmental cost of two attacks.

A-level

Captain America

While not exactly a top-tier tank, Captain America is still more than capable of absorbing tons of damage. He can quickly ease pressure from allies with Dig In, fending off enemies with an upgraded version of the card. Tactician is also quite strong, providing two Heroic Essences, a large number of blocks, and allowing you to draw two cards.

Dr. Strange

Doctor Strange is a hybrid that acts mostly as a support, but his buffs can seriously help increase the amount of damage your team can deal. Vishanti's blessing literally increases the attack power of abilities in your hand, and he can deal quite a bit of damage himself if you carefully manage your heroic essence with abilities like Baltakk's Arrow.

Ghost rider

If you like the thrill of taking risks for more rewards, then you need a Ghost Rider by your side. His fiery abilities like Immolate can create a chaotic chain reaction of explosions, while Whiplash allows you to slap enemies in any direction as long as you can pay for it by taking a little damage.

Man of iron

Iron Man is another hybrid of sorts that leans more towards the damage role, relying on redraw to boost his abilities with additional effects. "Leave It to Me" can really help Tony Stark's cards thrive, and is an especially powerful combo when combined with Air Superiority.

B-level

Blade

While Blade is in a league of his own when it comes to the cool factor, he's just a decent damage dealer. Strike is one of the best abilities in the early game, helping to take out multiple targets. Unfortunately, his set works best when your enemies are bleeding, which means he ends up completely dependent on cards like Make Them Bleed and Glaive to really shine.

Hulk

The Hulk appears very late in the Midnight Sun campaign, making it difficult to determine his overall usefulness. For the short time he's at your side before the final mission, the not-so-cheerful green giant can hit enemies like a truck.

Niko Minoru

Given the unpredictability of the Staff of One, Niko can just as easily feel like the most powerful hero on your team or a sitting duck. She is most similar to the healer from Midnight Suns, with abilities such as Blood for Blood and Restoration. Unfortunately, healing abilities aren't really needed unless you're playing on higher difficulties, making Witchfire her most valuable card if you can maximize her utility.

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch appears quite late in the campaign, so you need to work a little to build her deck. Her base cards aren't fantastic, but she can deal decent AoE damage with cards like Unleashed, Chaos Reigns, and Hex Field.

Wolverine

Another belated addition to the list, Wolverine thankfully comes with a great set of starter cards. The main reason he pales in comparison to other tanks is because he relies on Beserk's lifesteal, which only lasts one turn, and his health boosting fast heal.

Don't let our rankings stop you from picking someone who better suits your preferred playstyle, but our top tip is that you grab a tank, damage dealer, and support on every mission.
