We've been in the Sims 4 lifecycle for a few years now, and the Sims 4 CC community has filled in a lot of content gaps. There are thousands of mods and CC packs for The Sims 4 to change how your Sims look, what furniture you can cram into their homes, and even change the available recipes, activities, and lifestyles. Sims 4 CC Folder
Downloading custom content and mods for The Sims 4 should be as easy as clicking "Download" on any site you're browsing from. The files will then be placed in the downloads folder you specified on your PC or Mac, and then they will need to be moved to the appropriate folder in order for the game to recognize them.
This can be found by going to your Documents folder, selecting Electronic Arts, then The Sims 4. There are two folders that are used for custom content; 'Tray' is used to store lots and sims, and 'Fashion' is used for everything else.
How to install Sims 4 SS
There are several different types of files depending on what type of custom content or mods you are uploading, so below we will outline what to expect:
User Content
Most custom content (such as clothes and objects) and mods will use the .package file extension. They don't require a formal installation and just need to be placed in the mods folder or an appropriate subfolder for them to work.
Lots and Sims
Loaded lots and sims use several different file types. Lots can be .blueprint, .bpi, or .trayitem files, and Sims can be .hhi, .householidbinary, .sgi, or .trayitem file types. Again, no action is required to install these files once they are placed in the Tray folder or in the appropriate subfolder within it.
Script mods
Script mods can, again, be one of several file types; .ts4script, .pyo, .py or .pyc. .ts4script files can be placed in the mods folder in the same way as .package files, while .pyo, .py and .pyc files need to be left in their zipped/zipped folder inside the mods folder.
Please note that the .pyo file type is no longer supported by The Sims 4 and script mods with this file type are likely out of date.
Organization of custom content and mods
Custom content and mods are not without problems, so we highly recommend organizing your uploaded content well and creating sub-folders that categorize the type of content you've uploaded, such as hairstyles, clothes, objects, etc.
This makes it much easier to troubleshoot any custom content or mods that aren't working properly or showing up in your game.
Subfolders can be no more than five folders deep before they are no longer recognized by the game, which is especially useful for categories like clothing where you can have many subcategories like shirts, pants, etc.
Please note that script mods, which usually consist of multiple files, cannot be placed in subfolders, so we recommend that you create one folder for this script mod in your main Sims 4 mods folder and place all the relevant files there.
You can also rename your files as long as they end with the correct file extension, which is useful for registering the content creator and their element type.
Enable custom content and mods
Sims 4 players will need to manually enable any downloaded custom content and mods through the in-game menu. To do this, press ESC, then go to "Game Options", then "Other". From there, you can select "Enable Custom Content and Mods" and "Script Mods Allowed" to enable your custom content.
Note that this can be turned off when EA releases official patches for The Sims 4, so always make sure it's turned back on after a patch is installed.
It's worth checking after official patches that any advanced mods or script mods you have installed are compatible with this current version of the game, and if not, disable them until they're updated to prevent any crashes or bugs from appearing. in your game. .
How to Find Sims 4 Custom Content in the Game
To make sure your custom content and mods have been installed correctly, you can view this in-game by pressing ESC, then go to Game Options, then Other and click View Custom Content. The game should list everything that it successfully installed.
All content related to Sim visuals, from skin gems to accessories and clothing, will be available in Create-A-Sim mode. Uploaded items will be viewable in buy and build mode, which you can only filter by custom content by going to "Filter Items" on the right, selecting "Content" and then checking "User Content" from the drop-down menu.
Downloaded lots and sims can be found by going to the Gallery and going to "My Library". Don't forget to check the "Enable User Content" checkbox in the menu on the left as this checkbox will be unchecked by default and you won't be able to view anything you've downloaded.

- Patreon: Several Sims 4 CC creators have used the platform, creating everything from exquisite building lots to varied hair and skin tones and extensive gameplay additions that often overshadow Maxis' work.
Glossary of terms
- Mods: Mods that can change the behavior of the game and Sims. These can range from minor game changes to system overhauls. They often need to be checked for updates rather than user-created content to keep working, and can sometimes become incompatible with the game after official updates.
- Copy: Abbreviation for user-generated content.
- Grid: The skeleton of an object. Everything in The Sims 4 requires a grid, so when loading custom content that uses a new grid rather than an existing grid in the game, make sure that is also loaded or your items won't show up.
- Samples: Color options for all items
- Repaint: Alternative color change for existing Maxis content or custom content created by other creators. Again, you need to make sure you have the correct mesh when loading the repaint.
- Default replacement: custom content that replaces an existing Maxis item or color swatch in the game. You can use this if you want to override things like clothing or furniture colors without adding extra swatches to the game.
- Not default: custom content that adds an additional element or color swatch to the game, rather than overriding existing elements.
- Alpha SS: custom content that is highly detailed and looks as photorealistic as possible.
- Maxis Match SS: custom content that must match the art style of The Sims 4.
