GTA RPG servers are a major part of the long-term appeal of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online. These servers often dramatically change the makeup of a multiplayer game, allowing players to live out cops and robber fantasies, plan online bank heists, or form factions that control parts of the game's open world. However, Rockstar and Take-Two have set certain rules regarding these GTA RPG servers, including how they handle the appearance of cryptocurrencies, NFTs and loot boxes on them.

Rockstar recently answered a question about whether third-party GTA RPG servers are allowed in GTA Online, and while the developer fully supports the creativity and community behind these servers, he laid out some rules to follow.

"Take-Two's enforcement policies will be consistent with our current policies regarding PC Single-Player mods," the statement said. It will be aimed at combating the misuse of Rockstar's trademarks and IP, real-life brands, characters and music, "including the sale of 'loot boxes' for real-world currency or its in-game equivalent."

That's not all, however, as Take-Two says the lawsuits also cover the use of virtual currencies through in-game integration, which includes “the use of cryptocurrencies or crypto-assets (such as “NFTs”); creating new games, stories, missions or maps; or interfering with our official multiplayer or online services, including Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online."

While this may all sound pretty bleak in terms of control (not the lack of third-party NFTs or loot boxes, that's great), Take-Two and Rockstar are perfectly within their rights to protect their property and stop people from using the Cops n' server. Crooks to sell their virtual snake oil to anyone who will listen.

Rockstar also answered the question of whether role servers are allowed at all, and this definitely yes: "Rockstar Games has always believed in intelligent fan creativity and wants creators to demonstrate their passion for our games. Third-party "Roleplay" servers continue the rich array of community-created Grand Theft Auto experiences that we hope will continue to thrive in a safe and friendly environment for many years to come.»

It is also clarified that this is not an "endorsement" of any RPG servers, and that Take-Two can do whatever they want with any and all third party projects, so keep that in mind. In fact, GTA Online server mods fiveM "reiterates the policies" outlined by Rockstar and will update its own terms of service shortly.
