The developers of STALKER 2 have released a public statement regarding a data breach they say occurred after the account of one of its employees was hacked. GSC Game World, the Ukrainian developer of the upcoming horror-themed RPG set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, urges fans to wait for the STALKER 2 release date and avoid viewing any potential leaked images or videos resulting from the incident.
«Recently, our employee's account for an image collaboration application was hacked.", the company said in a statement released on social platforms including Twitter and Discord. “A community from a Russian social network took responsibility for this. They threaten to use the data obtained for blackmail and intimidation.".
GSC Game World, which is currently based in Prague after relocating following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, notes that over the past year it has been subject to repeated blackmail, acts of aggression, hacking, attempts to harm players and fans, and attempts to damage development or reputation of our company. However, the company says that the events of the war in Ukraine are “much worse” and that “attempts to blackmail or intimidate us are completely useless.”
The team addresses the fans: “In case of any leaks, we ask you to refrain from viewing or sharing information about STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl.". The team explains that many of these content may be outdated or work-in-progress, and encourages players who are hungry for the sequel to be patient and wait for the official release for the best experience.
In conclusion, the developers of STALKER 2 GSC Game World would like to thank the community for the tremendous response and support during these difficult times. Finallyby saying: “Our mission is to dedicate all our energy and passion to completing the project and delivering it to you, despite all the obstacles along the way. Your support is our inspiration. Glory to Ukraine!"
