After years and years, The Pokemon Company has finally revealed Pokemon Sleep, and it's actually coming out this year.

“We know we've kept you all waiting, but we can finally bring you Pokemon Sleep later this year,” said The Pokemon Company COO Takato Utsunomiya after showing off the new trailer for the highly anticipated Pokemon Sleep. First introduced almost four years ago in 2019, the game didn't get a single mention (maybe it needs a few more hours of sleep), but this re-introduction finally showed us what exactly you do in the app other than just sleep.

Gameplay Pokemon Sleep

This Pokemon adventure takes place on a small island where you get to spend some time with a new Pokemon professor named Professor Neroli. Together, literally through sleep, you will explore different types of dreams. If you leave your phone by your pillow, like other sleep tracking apps, it will record, measure, and analyze your sleep. Since this is Pokemon, there are, of course, “types” of sleep, of which there are three main ones: nap, sleep, and nap.

Different Pokémon obviously have different sleep styles, and depending on your sleep style, different Pokémon may gather around the sleeping Snorlax on your island. There are also rarer styles of sleep, such as goofy or lop-eared, so you'll have to explore the different types.

What platforms will Pokemon Sleep be released on?

The game will be released on Android and iOS later this year, and you can even purchase additional hardware for it. Despite the silly name, Pokemon Go Plus+ (the plus sign is an addition to the name) is an updated version of Pokemon Go Plus that will have Pokemon Sleep functionality. Inside it is Pikachu, who joins you during sleep and can sing you lullabies. You can use the device as an alternative to your phone, leaving it with you in bed to track your sleep. The device will work with Pokemon Go just like the original, so you can use it to catch Pokemon and spin stops. Additional functionality for Pokemon Go will be added later, and by pairing your device with the app, you can get a special Snorlax with a sleeping cap.
