The Tower of Fantasy server handoff has been rumored for quite some time now, and Hotta Studio revealed when the feature would be added to the anime RPG in a recent developer blog. Attention, spoiler, it looks like this, unfortunately, will not happen in the near future.

Server handover has become a relatively common feature in large-scale MMORPG-style games, but Tower of Fantasy didn't come out with this seemingly essential feature. This means that if you want to play with your friends, you must all be on the same server. While this sounds like a minor inconvenience, the servers fill up quickly (especially when streamers and pros participate), meaning latecomers may not be able to play with their friends.

After a period of silence regarding the server migration, Hotta Studio posted a lengthy developer blog discussing why it hasn't implemented the feature yet - and, spoiler alert, it's due to hackers.

While apologizing for having to shut down servers with little to no notice, the developers confirmed that they will be improving the game's security to ensure situations like this don't happen again. This echoes what lead developer Sky told us in an exclusive interview.

They then emphasize that “server migration is closely related to important issues, including account security, data and asset transfers. As such, we are working hard to ensure a safe and smooth transition for the Wanderers, and this may take some time.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused by the feature's long rollout. We will announce the details of the server migration plans sometime in the second half of November. Please watch our announcement." Full blog can be found here.

While this may seem a little belated to many, Tower of Fantasy has had serious problems with hackers and rule breakers. A recent exploit resulted in players having all of their gear stolen when joining a hacker group, causing one of two crashes. While the developers provided compensation for the downtime, it was, unfortunately, another chapter in the history of Tower of Fantasy hackers. As a player, I'd rather make sure my gear is safe before moving on, so Hotta made the right choice in my opinion.

Let's hope that with the release of the Tower of Fantasy 2.0 update, we will still see a lot less unfortunate residents of Aida.
