EA has announced that the newest update to The Sims 4 will no longer support a certain version of the game of Life, requiring you to change the version you're playing on or completely upgrade your PC or laptop, depending on your situation.

This refers to The Sims 4 update for the Legacy Edition of the game, which was introduced midway through The Sims 4 life cycle when EA updated The Sims 4 base game and system requirements for better hardware.

Now that old version of The Sims 4 is gone, which doesn't seem like a problem at first, but the casual nature of The Sims means it's played by a lot of people with different levels of technology, and some will likely lose access.

The Legacy Edition of the game was an update to The Sims 4 to ensure that 32-bit PC operating systems (such as some older Windows) and non-metal mac OS could run the game. All expansions before University work with the Legacy Edition, but everything after that, online features, and some mods, do not work with the old version of The Sims 4.

If you're using Legacy Edition, this update to The Sims 4 will take effect on December 12th. As of this date, EA is "saying goodbye to the Legacy Edition, so this option is no longer available."

While this is frustrating for players with older hardware, EA has provided some details on what you'll need to continue playing the regular version of The Sims 4. Mac owners will need Metal mac OS on their computer, version 10.11 or higher. Windows PC players will need to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit or install The Sims 4 on a device that already has a 64-bit OS installed.

However, you don't have to worry about your saves, as EA has provided a description of how transfer your saves ahead of The Sims 4 update.
