The colony management game RimWorld 1.4 just released a major expansion that adds all sorts of new genetic and robotic capabilities to the game. With the latest RimWorld 1.4 update, the Biotech expansion has become more compatible with other components of the game - in particular, the Ideology expansion, which was released last year. The combined expansions offer new storytelling options for RimWorld, all of which could bring interesting changes to your next colony.

The 1.4 RimWorld update introduced several new ideological precepts, which are related to the possibilities introduced by the addition of biotech. Your people may develop a belief about blood feeders: people who revere blood feeders will have no problem being bitten by vampires, and will even love their presence. On the other hand, the people may censure them and turn into an enclave of dedicated vampire hunters.

Ideologies may develop preferences for xenotypes, favoring certain characteristics or species over others. Believers will prefer to live in colonies where people display these qualities and will resist attempts to turn them into any other non-preferred xenotype.

Since the Ideology expansion introduced tech lovers and haters, RimWorld creator Tynan Sylvester decided that these views should carry over to the use of growth vats - you may have an ideologue who believes that growth vats are necessary for his continued existence, but there will be push away more traditional methods of reproduction.

There are many more changes in update 1.4, and complete information about the patch contains all the details.
