WoW Dragonflight Dracthyr has taken center stage throughout the next World of Warcraft expansion, but given that they combine both a class and race in the form of the Evoker, will we see an MMORPG version of the warrior? The answer is definitely no.

If you've played through Drakhir's starting area, the Forbidden Area, you've likely encountered the wingless Drakonids - scaly meatballs that were sent to destroy the Drakhir and raze their home to the ground. These muscular creatures ally with the Evoker and his comrades at the end of the starting quest, opening up the possibility of creating a warrior-style Draconid or Drakthyr allied race.

I asked Production Designer Pat Dawson and Chief Game Designer (Profession) Eric Holmberg-Weidler if we could expect Draktir to take on a role other than Evoker, but according to Dawson, that seems very unlikely.

"One thing we wanted to do from the very beginning was to make [Dracthyr's] race and class very dependent on each other," he says. “That's why you end up with a mid-level spellcaster, because when you think of dragon abilities and dragon-like things, you think of dragon breath or tail whip; it's not something that makes sense at 40 yards. We created this race and class with each of them in mind."

What then about Draconid? "When it comes to expanding [the Dracthyr] into other things, I think that's a future conversation we'll have about what opportunities make sense, and even opportunities for allied races," Dawson tells PCGamesN. “We're constantly having conversations about how we can add more features to the game. I think moving to the Dragon Isles gives us more room to think through things there."

“We're looking at some fan-favorite things, listening to feedback, having internal conversations because everyone on the team is always asking for things like this, and making decisions based on the best interests of the community.”

However, he practically put the nail in the coffin of the Draktir warrior class. “With Draktir, we really wanted to tie race and class together, so I wouldn't expect to see Draktir warriors in the near future.”

While this may be disappointing for those who prefer to dive into the heart of the fight rather than cast spells from a short distance, it does hint that we might see a new allied race that could potentially make up for Draktir's average playstyle.

However, if you want to create a great draconic warrior, I would suggest giving this class a try. I had a really bad time during the WoW Dragonflight pre-alpha, but having created the new Drakhir personality for the WoW Dragonflight pre-patch, I can't explain how much fun I had - especially since the Forbidden Territory is such a great starting zone.
