Bungie's latest game update includes changes to matchmaking in Destiny 2 Crucible, designed to provide better connectivity and matchmaking speed for highly skilled FPS players, according to a tweet from the official Bungie Help Twitter account.

“We're making some targeted changes to Control's matchmaking system. Our goal is to improve matchmaking and communication speeds for players in higher skill groups.” It says in a tweet.

It also includes a note informing players that if they encounter any issues related to this change, they can submit them to the official Bungie website. help forum.

Bungie didn't say exactly what changes were made, but the update addresses an issue that could become a constant problem in competitive shooters.

Game developers often implement skill-based matchmaking to ensure balanced competition. While some people find this concept unfair outside of ranked games, this kind of matchmaking makes the game enjoyable for the casual and less experienced players who usually make up the majority of the players in the game.

However, these fixes often mean that top-level players often have to wait a long time for matches while the game tries to match them with opponents who can also compete at a high level of skill. These players may also be playing matches against someone from another region, which can cause latency and hit registration issues.

Therefore, iteration in the matchmaking process is generally welcome as it can help balance the trade-off between long wait times and weak competition. This is especially true for a convenient game mode like Control, which, despite PvP, is not necessarily a highly competitive activity and therefore appeals to players of all skill levels.

Bungie start overhaul its skill-based matchmaking system at the start of season 18. The game developer hopes to continue iterating throughout Season 19 until the team feels that the matchmaking system is optimal for experienced players and newcomers alike.

Bungie has also introduced several other fixes with Hotfix 6.2.5.1. Highlights include: a fix to correct a situation where Mindmage's Ambition (Adept) would not drop with two perks in the left stat column, a fix to reduce the number of Headless that need to be defeated in Haunted Lost Sectors to get a certain triumph, and a few minor ones changes to the Festival of the Lost event map.
