Google has announced that it will shut down its cloud gaming service Stadia in early 2023. It's a bummer for anyone who's bought games and played on the platform, but Ubisoft says it's working to soften the blow by developing a way for Stadia players to bring their Ubisoft games to PC.

"While Stadia will shut down on January 18, 2023, we're excited to announce that we're working on bringing the games you own on Stadia to PC via Ubisoft Connect," company says. "We will have more information on specific details as well as the impact on Ubisoft+ subscribers later."

In other words, if you've purchased Ubisoft games on Stadia, chances are you'll be able to transfer those purchases to the PC version on Ubisoft Connect. Sounds like pretty good news, and it is, as long as you have a powerful enough PC to run these games. One of the main features that Stadia offers is to eliminate the need for a powerful gaming PC, so it goes without saying that most Stadia users probably don't have a powerful home setup.

So far, Ubisoft has only stated that it is working on making it possible to transfer ownership of the game to PC - it's possible that other target platforms will become available, but we'll have to wait and see.

Interestingly, one of the first public trials of the technology that powers Stadia allowed players to try Assassin's Creed Odyssey for free and play through the entire game in a web browser.
