Xbox Company chief Phil Spencer was recently reminded of what he said. Final Fantasy 14 should be released on Xbox, and, apparently, this is still in the plans.

Three years ago, Spencer did promise that the Xbox team was working with director Naoki Yoshida and co to bring the game to Xbox One. Well, now we have a whole new generation of Xbox consoles, and still no cats or paladins in sight. Now, according to Game Watch (VGC translation), Spencer has confirmed his determination to bring the game to the platform.

“We announced it, of course (laughs),” Spencer said. “Naturally, we haven’t given up yet. This is a commitment from both Microsoft and Square Enix to gamers, and we will continue to coordinate our efforts."

Final Fantasy 14 was originally released on PS3 and PC in 2010, later on PS4 and later on PS5. An Xbox 360 version was developed prior to launch, but Microsoft's cross-platform server policy prevented it from running on that platform. This means that the now very successful MMO has not been launched on any Xbox console.

A number of games in the series Final Fantasy, for example, unfairly pissed off Final Fantasy 13 have been added to Game Pass, indicating that Microsoft is interested in having these games featured on the service. So it's likely only a matter of time before 14 hits Xbox consoles.

Cross-play has become more and more common in online gaming over the years, in particular in games such as Fortnite и Multi Versus to make it easier for players to play together.

Final Fantasy 14 recently completed the main story that has been set since the game's relaunch called A Realm Reborn, but Yoshida has stated that the next expansion and the next story are already in the works, or at least he's working on the story inside.
