A new innovation has arrived in Night City! The new Cyberpunk 2077 mod adds traffic fines, a bit like the fines you see in truck games like American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Drive carefully! The mod is installed, you will be fined for hitting other cars, and fines will increase for more serious accidents.

Modder Joe Parker explains that the mod enrolls everyone in Cyberpunk 2077 in Night City's new insurance department. In the event of a collision with another vehicle, the repair costs are automatically deducted from your bank account. Different kinds of collisions result in different charges; for example, a minor rear collision at a traffic light will not cost as much as a frontal collision at full speed.

The fines are small enough that they never get in the way of your progress - most of them are less than 100 Eurodollars. However, you can change this by editing the config file included with the mod. This file can also be modified to disable the display of the message when colliding with another car.

Joe Parker says the mod has one known issue - sometimes you'll be fined when two other vehicles collide, even if you haven't touched either of them. “Think of it as a 'fad' of the insurance system,” the modder suggests, and we have to agree that it fits very well into Cyberpunk's dystopian corporate hellish world.

Head to Nexus Mods to download and install the mod.
