If you're into co-op horror, you'll be pleased to know that The Outlast Trials' release date has now been set, and it's only a matter of time before the multiplayer sequel to two of the scariest horror games on PC hits Early Access on Steam and on the Epic Games Store. Following the success of the first two games, developer Red Barrels reveals exactly when you'll be able to work together to try and survive the Trial of Murkoff.

The Outlast Trials is the third installment in the Outlast series, in which you take control of "guinea pigs, unwittingly recruited by the good people of the Murkoff Corporation to test advanced methods of brainwashing and mind control." Unlike previous games, The Outlast Trials features more RPG elements, with a choice of classes that offer different skills to help you and your companions survive.

These abilities include the ability to see nearby enemies through walls, heal allies, plant mines that can blind enemies, and throw a stun device that can distract enemies. Don't expect Left 4 Dead from the game, though; It's still a survival game at its core, and stealth and evasion are your most important tools. If playing with other people isn't your thing, Red Barrels says players can play through everything solo, although the game is definitely designed with co-op play in mind.

When is the release date for The Outlast Trials?

The Outlast Trials release date is May 18th. Steam and Epic. The game will initially release in Early Access mode, which means you can expect additional features to arrive over time after the game launches. The announcement comes with an amazing trailer that gives players a peek behind the curtain, showing several of the game's voice actors screaming and gurgling with delight.

If you want to follow how horror develops, you may wish The Outlast Trials to Steam or Epic Games.
