MetaQuest Pro (formerly known as Project Cambria) should be the next best VR headset fueled by metaversive ambitions, but it won't replace Oculus Quest 2. Instead, it's aimed at mixed reality-enabled professionals, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks it can replace your work PC or laptop.

It's not the whole work and not the whole game as it still has a lot of power for VR gaming and supports the Xcloud part of the Xbox Game Passbut that's not where its value for money lies. If you're using your VR headset primarily for gaming, you'd better wait Oculus Quest 3.

Speaking of Quest 3, in early 2022 there were rumors of an improved Oculus Quest 2 Pro, but they have since died down. It's safe to say that Meta Quest Pro is all we'll see from the company before the end of 2022.

Meta Quest Pro release date

Meta Quest Pro (formerly codenamed Project Cambria) is available for pre-order now and will ship on October 25, 2022. It is designed primarily for Metaverse and mixed reality, enabling collaboration, creativity, and multitasking, not just gaming.

For games, Meta is partnering with Microsoft to bring the Xbox Game Pass to the Quest line through XCloud, the brand's cloud gaming platform.

Price Speculation Meta Quest Pro

Proving that this is a business device first and games come second, CEO Mark Zuckerberg wasn't kidding when he said the VR headset is "on the higher end of the price spectrum." Meta Quest Pro is priced at $1499.

That's more expensive than the HTC Vive Pro 2 and even the Valve Index, which was previously considered the more premium part of VR. If the cost makes you look up, don't worry, the Quest Pro won't replace the Meta Quest 2. It's a job for the Meta Quest 3, and Valve is also working on an Index 2 successor that will probably fit the more affordable market.

Specifications MetaQuest Pro

Like the Meta Quest 2, Project Cambria is a wireless, standalone headset. It features a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 processor, which Meta claims delivers 50% more power than the current Quest 2 with better thermal dissipation.

The new pancake lenses are 40% thinner than those on the Quest 2, with higher pixel density in the center to help you read text better. The LCD screens themselves have 37% more pixels per inch than its predecessor and provide 75% more contrast to make colors more vibrant.

The HMD is equipped with inward-facing cameras for face tracking, monitoring your expression so that your Metaverse avatar smiles when you smile, frowns when you frown, and speaks when you speak. Meta believes that this gives more authenticity to the non-verbal presence in the virtual space.

Meta Quest Pro also boasts an eye tracking feature that provides users with another input method. This technology allows developers to implement foveated rendering, an adaptive scaling method that keeps the player's line of sight high resolution and scales everything else down. Not only does this make everything you see in the virtual world super clear, but it also ensures that the device's processing power isn't wasted.

Because it is a mixed reality headset and not a strict virtual reality headset, it includes support for augmented reality. It includes peripheral vision, which allows you to see the physical room around you, and magnetic light blockers for when you want to be more immersive.

Despite its offline capabilities, you'll most likely be able to plug it into your gaming PC for improved accuracy and performance, and you might still be able to unplug the cord using Meta Air Link.

Meta Quest Pro controller leaks

The Pro controllers are reportedly lighter in weight, ditching the ring and replacing it with better tracking cameras on the grips. This allows the pads to track hand movements independently of the headset, providing more control over the body. Overall, this should allow for more precise positioning of controllers in XNUMXD virtual space.

Many features for Meta Quest Pro are still in development, they are scheduled for 2023 and will not appear at launch.
