Following the release of the Children of the Worm expansion back in August of this year, Turtle Rock Studios is once again working on a third expansion for Back 4 Blood. Officially titled "River of Blood", the upcoming expansion will be released December 6 as part of the Back 4 Blood Annual Pass or separately.
Featuring an all-new story campaign with exciting missions across five maps, River of Blood will have players traveling up the river, stopping at various points along the way to collect supplies and take on new enemies. Players will also be introduced to the new Purifier Tala, a former outcast cultist turned Purifier who is accompanied by a Ridden named Jeff, a friendly tallboy who can be called upon to aid the team. Jeff can be called on the whistle by Tala or other Sweepers on her team.
River of Blood will also include eight exclusive character skins and 12 exclusive weapon skins, as well as new weapons, accessories and maps.
As an added treat for all Back 4 Blood owners, a free "Trial of the Worm" update will be released alongside the "River of Blood" expansion. Trial of the Worm is a co-op PvE mode where players determine their path through a chain of four cards, earning Supply Points along the way. Players can add corruption modifiers or take more active paths to increase the difficulty and increase the number of supply points gained. Those looking for a challenge or a more individual difficulty can try to complete the Worm Challenge with a high score to reach the top spot on the online leaderboard.
And if that's not enough, the Back 4 Blood holiday event returns on the same day as River of Blood. will last until January 4, 2023. Players will not only receive holiday decorations in Fort Hope, listen to holiday music in the jukebox, but also be able to get holiday skins, emblems, weapon skins and sprays. More details about the celebratory event are expected at a later date.
