Tom Hardy will return as Venom in Sony's upcoming Venom 3, and today Deadline reports that Venom and Venom 2 screenwriter Kelly Marcel will direct the third film.
Kelly Marcel not only wrote the script, but also produced the first two Venom films. She will also produce Venom 3 and will also write the script for the new film.
Deadline reports: “Plot details are unknown other than Hardy's return as the deadly protector Venom after the first two films grossed a combined $1,36 billion at the global box office. It is also unknown who will join Hardy from previous films, and whether the film will include characters from the Sony Pictures Marvel Universe."
Ruben Fleischer directed the film Venom, and Andy Serkis directed Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage. The 2021 sequel will pit Tom Hardy's Venom against Woody Harrelson's Carnage. The sequel also made it clear that these Venom films take place within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we expect to see a few more connections in the upcoming third film.
