Looking for news about the movie Scream 6? Here's everything we know about the movie "Scream 6": release date and first trailer, cast, plot and other details.

In 1996, audiences were terrorized by a new masked killer: Ghostface, the terrifying, darting killer at the center of the Scream franchise. Unlike Jason, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger, it is a mantle, not a person, that is passed on to new generations of movie geeks.

The fifth Scream film was released in theaters earlier this year. It was a huge success, grossing more than $140 million worldwide and receiving critical acclaim—no small feat considering expectations for its frightening scenes and topical, witty commentary.

Fans will soon be able to enjoy Scream 6 - and here's what we know about the sequel: release date and trailer, cast, plot and other details.

Scream 6 release date: when will it be released?

Scream 6 will be released 10 March 2023 year. The film was originally supposed to be released at the end of the month, but Paramount Pictures moved the date forward by three weeks.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett returned to direct Scream 6, with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busiek writing the script.

The film's production took place in Montreal and filming ended in August 2022.

In conversation with EmpireWhile confirming the film's release date, the directors said, "This film has to be willing to risk everything to subvert all those expectations. And we're so far down the rabbit hole of the Scream movies that it's all up to us at this point."

The first poster for Scream 6 was also released with the slogan: “New York, new rules.”

Scream 6 Cast: Who's Starring and Who's Returning?

Several characters from the fifth film are expected to return for Scream 6, as well as a major favorite: Hayden Panettiere as Kirby, first introduced in Scream 4 and rumored to be revived in the sequel.

Here are all the confirmed Scream 6 actors:

  • Courteney Cox as Gail Withers
  • Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter
  • Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter
  • Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed
  • Jasmine Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin
  • Mason Gooding as Chad Mix-Martin
  • Dermot Mulroney as unnamed police officer
  • Henry Czerny
  • Samara Weaving
  • Tony Revolori
  • Jack Champion
  • Devin Nekoda
  • Liana Liberato
  • Josh Segarra
  • Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface

Two old characters will not be returning: David Arquette's Dewey, who was killed off in the previous film, and, most controversially, Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott.

The star announced in June that she would not be returning to Scream 6. Unfortunately, I will not be starring in the next Scream movie,” she said in a statement to Deadline.

As a woman, I've had to work really hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt that the offer that was made to me was not commensurate with the value that I brought to the franchise."

“It was a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You have always been so incredibly supportive of me. "I am forever grateful to you and what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."

In conversation with People Campbell explained that she did not want to leave Scream over anything related to the creative direction of the franchise. "I honestly don't believe that if I were a man and I did five huge blockbuster movies over the course of 25 years, the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man," she said.

“And in my heart I just couldn’t do it. I couldn't go on set feeling unappreciated and feeling like there was unfairness or a lack of fairness."

Campbell said she would be willing to return if she was paid decently. “I'm not finished with this chapter. Like I said, I care about these films... If they approached me with an offer that matched the value that I bring, I would certainly consider it. I wish them well, it was just unfortunate. This is not what should have happened,” she added.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of Wednesday's release on Netflix, Ortega, who plays Tara Carpenter, was asked how Scream 6 will handle Sydney's absence from the story.

“I feel like I can’t talk about it too much because it’s not necessarily my character,” she explained.

"But I will say that there's so much going on in the next movie, it's so action-packed and there's so much blood that I think you'll barely be distracted."

Some suspect that Campbell has rejoined the cast behind the scenes, and her involvement is being kept under wraps to surprise fans after the movie, or perhaps even the trailer, is released.

We're no longer in Woodsboro, as Scream 6 will be set in New York City. In an interview with Collider, Melissa Barrera said: “This is 20 times worse.

"It's horrible. Because you also see how in a city like New York, everyone is minding their own business and someone is screaming for help and no one comes to help.

“Nobody comes to their aid, you know, everyone seems to say: “I’m not getting into this.” So it's terrifying because you're being chased by Ghostface, but you're also seeing humanity and how they react in a situation like that." In general, I’ve probably already said too much.”

Jenna Ortega also told Entertainment Tonight, "Phantom's face becomes much more frightening. I just read part of the script and it's getting more and more scary."

"I think this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we've ever seen, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun to film."
