Professions WoW Dragonflight have changed as the franchise has evolved, from complex but useful to oversimplified and unsatisfactory. Luckily, Dragonflight has reworked professions with more versatility and complexity, creating a level of depth that has never been seen before in the game.
Players can now equip specific gear for each WoW Dragonflight profession, consisting of one main tool and two accessories. In addition to this, WoW Dragonflight talents have returned to more than just character classes and specs. All major professions have specialization trees that you can advance by using their professions or by acquiring special items.
WoW Dragonflight Gatherer Basic Professions
Gathering professions in WoW Dragonflight include mining, gathering herbs, and skinning, as well as providing raw materials for crafting professions to craft items. Crafting sub-specs include Infused Lure, which causes lured creatures to drop additional elemental materials when skinned, as well as Elusive Lure, which summons rare creatures that drop unique materials - or can even be tamed by hunters. Skinning specialties: bait making, tanning, and harvesting.
WoW Dragonflight Basic Crafting Professions
Basic crafting professions allow you to produce certain types of armor, weapons, accessories, potions, and upgrades. WoW Dragonflight has four new parameters that affect crafting professions: inspiration, resourcefulness, multicrafting, and crafting speed. Inspiration gives you a chance to improve your crafting skills when crafting an item. Resourcefulness increases the chance of saving materials. Multicraft increases the chances of crafting multiple items, and crafting speed reduces the time it takes to craft an item. Each profession has specializations that improve these stats, and you earn experience points the first time you craft each item.
The quality of the material also affects the items that are crafted - for example, weapons and armor made from higher quality materials have a higher item level, and healing potions restore more health than their lower quality counterparts. The chances of producing higher quality items increase as you level up your professions, acquire better crafting tools, and spend knowledge points on your specializations. You can convert low quality items into high quality items by spending additional materials. However, leveling crafting professions can be full of pitfalls, as there is a chance that you may not be using your materials effectively. Gathering's companion profession is always a good idea, as it can help fill your bags with materials. It is also possible to purchase materials at the auction.
Alchemy
Alchemists can create healing potions, mana potions, stat-boosting flasks, and special potions that increase speed or grant invisibility. Their brewing abilities don't stop there, they can also create cauldrons that provide potions to raid parties, transmute various materials, and even create trinkets just for alchemists. Alchemists may specialize in Potions Mastery, Flask Mastery, or Alchemical Theory.
blacksmith craft
Blacksmiths craft plate armor, weapons, and consumables used by melee classes. They can also craft several tools used by other professions, forge raw ores into alloys, and craft items that unlock dragon mount customizations. Blacksmithing specializations include Armor Crafting, Weapon Crafting, Special Smithing, and Hammer Handling.
Charms
Wizards can give items additional stat bonuses or special effects, craft wands for spellcasters, and craft items that give equipment the cosmetic effects of spells. Players collect materials by disenchanting uncommon, rare, or epic gear. Sorcerers specialize in enchantments, blue insight, wands, runes, and tricks.
Engineering
Engineers produce a wide range of valuable items, including weapons and bombs, tools for other professions, unique pieces of equipment only for engineers, and can add "craftsmen" to their equipment. This works similarly to enchantments, but gives special and exciting effects. The Engineer specializes in Optimized Efficiency, Explosives, Function over Form, and Mechanical Intelligence.
Inscription
Inscribers have traditionally created glyphs that cosmetically affect the player's abilities. Unfortunately, there are no new player glyphs in WoW Dragonflight, but players can craft items that unlock customizations for dragon mounts. Scribes can craft and upgrade the Dark Moon deck's trinkets, just like in past expansions, but more importantly, they can craft items that provide knowledge points for other professions. The inscription specializes in runecrafting, archiving, and rune binding.
Jewelcrafting
Jewelers produce rings, necklaces, gems, consumables that add gem slots to equipment, and professional tools. They also produce materials used in other professions' recipes. Jewelers mine raw ore to create gemstones, which are used in most recipes. Although Jewelry Making has less new content than other professions, players are always looking for items made by Jewelers. Jewelry specializations include mastery of jewelry tools, cutting, setting, and entrepreneurship.
Leatherworking
Leatherworkers produce leather and mail armor in addition to drums, providing a temporary party-wide buff that increases speed by 15%. Additionally, leg armor sets have returned, allowing leatherworkers to apply permanent bonuses to leg armor. They can craft tools and accessories for several other professions, and they have many opportunities to use this profession to earn extra gold. Leatherworking specializations are Leatherworking, Leathersmithing, Mailsmithing, and Primal Leatherworking.
Tailoring
Tailors can create cloth armor, bandages, and bags, but they now have access to numerous professional accessories. In addition, Tailors can add Spell Threads to their Leggings, providing additional armor and stat bonuses. Finally, you can collect cloth by looting humanoid enemies and produce thread by unraveling cloth rather than buying it from vendors. Tailoring specializations include Tailoring, Textiles, Dragoncraft, and Clothing Crafting.
Additional WoW Dragonflight Professions
Secondary Professions are separate from Primary Professions because any character can learn them in addition to their two Primary Professions. None of these skills have a specialization tree, but Cooking and Fishing have a few notable changes. Like other crafting professions, cooking benefits from inspiration, resourcefulness, multi-crafting, and crafting speed, while fishing only benefits from fixed bonuses to fishing skill. In addition, cooking has associated equipment - one tool and one accessory - and fishing now has an equipment slot for the character's fishing rod. Archeology, unfortunately, has not received an update since the Battle for Azeroth expansion.
Cooking remains the same in its execution, except that you can temporarily use additional reagents to improve resourcefulness and multi-crafting while cooking. Fishing is the same as always: cast your line and hit the bobber when you hear a splash. However, you can now participate in several fishing-related activities, such as placing nets or completing daily quests to replenish fishing pits to give buffs to all players in the vicinity.
Professions throughout the last few WoW expansions have consistently been perceived by players as flat and uninteresting. However, they now have a much more exciting activity loop in WoW Dragonflight, giving them a much bigger role to play in the final game content.
