Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground
While we expressed muted feelings in our review of Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground, it's still worth highlighting, mainly because it's the first decent Age of Sigmar strategy game since its much-released big brother, Warhammer Fantasy Battles. years ago. Until this point, Games Workshop was in no hurry to license Age of Sigmar, and most of the digital publications for Mortal Realms were casual mobile games.
Storm Ground offers decent turn-based action, bringing the setting's three iconic factions, including the Eternal Stormguard, to life with unique playstyles and units. The game has some rough edges, but it's a great digital introduction to Age of Sigmar and a worthy introduction for existing fans.
Blood Bowl 2
To be technical, Blood Bowl is not a Warhammer Fantasy game, but rather a football game set in an alternate version of Warhammer Fantasy, where disputes are settled not by the mighty clash of armies, but by hyper-aggressive games of rugby and American football, similar to "Blood Bowl"
Blood Bowl 3 is off to a good start, but compared to Blood Bowl 2, its opening game feels a little lame as it loses the ball in a sea of glitches, drawing widespread condemnation from the players' coaches. By comparison, Blood Bowl 2 is a straightforward turn-based tactical game that challenges you to assemble and manage a fantasy football team made up of several popular board game races. Warhammer: Vermintide 2
Following the release of 2015's Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide, Fatshark has created an excellent co-op murder-fest for the sequel. Fatshark also did a great job supporting the game after its release. New DLC packs in the form of additional career options for the main characters will allow you to return to battle with new skills. If you're looking for a Left 4 Dead style game that's reminiscent of Warhammer, then Vermintide 2 is the one for you.
Total War: Warhammer II
Indeed, we can note the entire line of Total War games from Warhammer Fantasy. However, we are highlighting Warhammer II because, firstly, it is better than Warhammer I, and secondly, despite the fact that Warhammer III is already out, the second game remains strong thanks to all the Warhammer 2 DLC it received with moment of release. Creative Assembly's historical Total War line was a success, but even greater success came to the studio when it brought the Warhammer fantasy to life in the Total Warhammer games.
Freed from the shackles of history, these strategy games took the series to new heights, and some of the best features of Total War appeared in Warhammer I and II. While it lacks the maturity and breadth of content found in its predecessor, as you can read about in our review of Total War: Warhammer III, it represents the culmination of nearly a decade of strategy work.
By bringing back meaningful siege battles, incorporating small-scale skirmishes between settlements, and improving overall tactical combat, even hardcore fans of the historical Total War experience find it hard to deny its impressive nature. The game still has a lot of room to grow with future updates and DLC, and we're looking forward to the Immortal Empires mega-campaign. This is undoubtedly one of the best PC games available today.
