Looking for information on whether SCUF Reflex is worth buying? SCUF is the brand that comes to mind for most people when it comes to custom gaming controllers. It's been that way for generations, and that reputation continues on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This time I'm looking at options for the PS5 as SCUF offers their highly customizable Reflect line in the form of the standard Reflex, Reflex Pro and Reflex FPS. With prices starting at $199,99, which is the same price as Sony's DualSense Edge, can the Reflex hold its own? Here is my review of the SCUF Reflex.

Reliability and guarantee

SCUF Reflex

Some things never change, and that goes for the SCUF button system. While the shape and placement have changed over the years, the SCUF is still the best when it comes to button feel and, most importantly for those who invest triple the amount in a pad, durability.

Overall peace of mind is enhanced by the one-year warranty that SCUF introduced at the start of 2023. While a warranty may be something out of the ordinary for many, having a year of warranty is great when it comes to such a premium accessory.

SCUF Reflex: Premium controller with high personalization options

What makes SCUF Reflex so premium, besides the paddles? These include interchangeable thumbsticks of different heights and shapes, a profile switch, interchangeable faceplates and ample opportunities to personalize controller colors using the “Customize Your SCUF” designer.

The Pro variant offers an additional grip and custom design in stock and in stock, while the FPS version removes vibration alerts to reduce overall weight and features instant triggers and bumpers for faster actuation. This is especially useful in first-person shooters, where rapid fire can mean the difference between getting the last shot at an enemy and killing them.

Made for FPS

SCUF Reflex

I tried the Reflex FPS, which is the most expensive version, but I feel the triggers and vibration elimination are worth spending the extra money on. However, if you want to use PS5 adaptive triggers in games, you're better off choosing a different version. Reflex FPS is clearly aimed at competitive gamers who are willing to give up adaptive features for instant triggers and SCUF bumpers.

Returning to the buttons for a moment, this is where the SCUF Reflex really shines. Whichever option you purchase, you'll get access to four well-placed paddles that users assign functions to for easy access during intense moments of gaming. For example, during a gunfight you may need to jump, aim and shoot at the same time. Without the petals, you'd have to adopt an unhealthy "claw grip." With paddles, you can simply press the paddles while controlling the analog stick with your free thumb.

New challenges for SCUF: D-pad improvement and competitive advantage

SCUF Reflex

With top names like Sony and Microsoft entering the pro controller market, SCUF will have to stay one step ahead. The color options are okay, but I'd like to see an improved D-pad. I remember the "Control Dial" that SCUF came up with for the DualShock 4. It would be great to see something like that again. Plus, the included case would certainly help compare to the FPV competitors.

Conclusion

Priced at $199,99, the SCUF Reflex can rival the PlayStation DualSense. While Sony's tablet has its strengths, I'm happy to report that SCUF still offers the best user controller, both in function and form. With a one-year warranty, I can confidently recommend this controller to enthusiast gamers looking to improve their gaming performance, especially first-person shooters.
