The game created by Yoko Taro has had many popular collaborations along with other well-known titles such as the MMORPG Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIV and his hit rhythm game THEATRYTHM FINAL ARTICLE... But this First ever solo project emerging from Nier: Automata franchise since its 2017 sequel.
With the help of the amazing Aniplex producers, animation director Ryoji Matsuyama and game creator Yoko Taro have worked tirelessly to provide fans of the original game with a story they both know and something new to enjoy. That's why the anime got this name: Ver. 1.1a.
Despite some confusion over whether the story would directly follow the game's premise or not, Yoko Taro showed that a direct adaptation of the game would not work in the end. Thus, Ver. 1.1a born - a version number that would distinguish the anime from the game itself and provide a better understanding of the difference between the two entities.
