Conroy was a Juilliard-trained actor who first played the role of Batman in 1992's Batman: The Animated Series. He continued to play the Dark Knight after the series ended in 1995, reprising the role in several DC Animated Universe spin-offs and direct-to-video films, including Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) and Justice League Vs. fives" (2019).

Conroy has also voiced the Caped Crusader in many of the best Batman games on PC, including Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Knight, the Injustice series, MultiVersus, and Batman: Arkham VR.

Diane Pershing, who voiced Poison Ivy alongside Conroy in the animated series, posted several photos of Conroy in a Facebook post announcing his passing.

"Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday."  Pershing . “He was ill for a while, but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the delight of all his fans. He will be greatly missed not only by the cast but also by his legion of fans around the world.”

Mark Hamill, who co-starred with Conroy as the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and other projects, took to Twitter and Instagram to express his sadness over Conroy's passing.

For the 2022 release of DC Pride, Conroy wrote an autobiographical story called "Finding Batman," which chronicles his experiences as a gay man trying to make a name for himself as an actor amid the turmoil of the 1980s and the AIDS crisis. This is a powerful and gripping story told with sensitivity, triumph and a palpable sense of lingering pain.

Of the many actors who have played Batman over many decades, Conroy's role has been the longest running and perhaps the most definitive. Rest in peace Kevin.
