Theory of events Destiny 2 Eliksni Quarter suggests that Spider is embezzling money through a charitable initiative, using the players' goodwill for personal gain.

While there is no hard evidence of such waste in the space game yet, the circumstantial evidence, combined with Spider's ruthless approach to doing business, suggests that the fan theory may have some basis in fact.

After reaching the community event completion goal of 400 million in donated treasure, fans began to notice that the improvements to the Eliksni Quarter were not worth the cost. The funds helped improve the area, but the staircase, plants and minor renovations did not seem to players to be improvements worth 400 million treasures.

Spider is not an enemy of the Vanguard, although his deeds often lead him to make underhanded deals and collaborate with known criminals. In the game, he is presented as a ruthless businessman who has no problem breaking the rules to achieve his personal goals. Even at the very beginning of the game, it seems suspicious that the Spider will lead the fundraising effort.

For example, at the beginning of the "Season of Plunder" the Spider receives a flicker from the Vanguard to supply and arm the Guardian, but at the same time tries to grab his share using "engram roulette". This activity forces the Guardian to choose one of three prizes, and Spider uses static interference to force the Guardian to choose useless equipment at least part of the time. Although the Guardian's Eliksni ally Eido eventually disables the Spider's scanner, it remains clear that the Spider's intentions are not always pure.

In addition, Spider's brother has criticized the crime lord in the past for ties to the human race. Now, even in the current season, Spider is still skeptical about his alliance with humans.

Although there is no evidence that the Spider acted dishonestly, embezzlement remains within the realm of possibility. Even Redditors editors backed this theory, with one post suggesting that the event showed the scale of corruption in the last city.

Renovation efforts have also inspired Twitter posts and memes, such as one from KackhisHD which suggests that The spider counts his embezzled money somewhere and a tweet from D1 Alpha Vet with a question about the prison term.

Many players shared that they felt this event was not eventful enough, possibly due in part to the Eliksni Quarter Donation Fund exploit that allowed players to donate infinite treasures to the community fund.

Since Spider was in charge of landscaping the Eliksni quarter, he might try to take over the donation bank. However, if Misraax found out that the Spider did this, he would most certainly be kicked out of the Last City, which would create serious problems for the black market entrepreneur.

Unfortunately, Watchmen will have to wait until Season 19's release date. Destiny 2 or maybe even before the release date Destiny 2 Lightfall to determine if the Spider may have embezzled funds during the event. While he has proven to be a valuable ally to the humans, he is not without flaws, and his greed may cost him his comfortable spot in the Eliksni Quarter.
