Oculus Quest 2 Since its transformation into the Meta Quest 2, the VR headset continues to add new features: 120Hz support, Air Link for wireless VR streaming from a PC, and even a Lord of the Rings-themed home environment. Meta has now introduced 'Try Before You Buy', a new system-level feature that makes it easier for developers to provide demos.

Available for Oculus Quest 2 and the original Quest, the latest update allows the Meta to solidify its position as the best VR headset. Bringing back the spirit of the demo discs, the program allows players to try out a wide range of games with minimal effort on the part of the developers, who no longer need to create separate applications.

All a developer needs to do is subscribe to Try Before You Buy (TBYB) and the demo will appear on the app's existing store page. At the discretion of the developer, these demos can be between 15 and 30 minutes long. If you remove your VR headset during the demo, the timer will pause.

Unfortunately, TBYB is not available for App Lab games, Meta's more experimental VR platform. For apps that support cross-purchase with Meta's legacy VR headsets on PC - Oculus Rift and Oculus Rift S - these challenges are not available on PC. As such, demos of supported games like Bonelab or Pistol Whip are limited to Quest and Quest 2, as well as VR headsets like Meta Quest Pro and Oculus Quest 3.

At the end of the trial period, access to the game will be closed until you purchase the application. However, TBYB saves your previous progress and all achievements, which means you can pick up where you left off. Developers also get analytics on how many players have tried their app, and we'll be very interested to see how this affects sales.
