The Windows 11 2022 Update, also known as "22H2", is currently rolling out slowly to compatible systems around the world, promising to bring new features and improvements to the operating system. Unfortunately, it appears that a bug in this latest version is causing performance drops on some PCs, resulting in slower file transfers and possibly downloads.

Microsoft's Ned Pyle details the Windows 11 2022 update issue at subsidiary article at the center of the company's community (via PC world). Pyle states that users may experience slower file transfer speeds when "copying large files from a remote computer to a Windows 11 computer", with the speed dropping "by as much as 40%."

This affects any transfers that are made using the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol, but it can also affect the speed at which you can access files on the remote computer. Pyle says Microsoft can't provide an ETA for a permanent fix just yet, but a temporary fix is available in a support article.

This is not the first time that a Windows 11 update has caused unintended complications to the OS, as Microsoft has unintentionally blocked some users from accessing their PCs with a previous security patch.
