Civil War Victoria 3 is on the path to destruction. Paradox's latest grand strategy game, Victoria 3, is out now, and while it's ambitious, detailed, and beautiful to look at, it has some problems. One is that the American Civil War, in which the southern slave states seceded to retain their rights to own slaves, is fairly easy to avoid—you don't have to fight it at all. Paradox says this issue is one of several it is working on in an upcoming patch for Victoria 3.

In a post on the Paradox forums titled Known Bugs, the Victoria 3 team lists 19 currently monitored issues and offers temporary workarounds for them and/or a promise to fix them.

“American Civil War Victoria 3 could easily be avoided, and if it broke out, the Union could end up with slave states and vice versa,” the list says. “While civil wars and state selection for revolutionary countries are dynamically determined based on political support and radicalism and can take different forms in different playthroughs of the game, this specific outcome is not intended and will be eliminated,” Paradox explains.

The developer reports that in some user configurations, Paradox Launcher cannot parse the settings file, resulting in language and other settings being unable to be changed in the launcher. If this occurs in your configuration, Paradox recommends using the Add or Remove Programs application in Windows to remove all instances of Paradox launcher and then launch the game again.

The problem mentioned in our Civil War Victoria 3 review is that the line on the budget balance chart that appears when you hover over the budget figure in the top menu bar often goes off the chart, sometimes off the screen. Paradox has stated that it is also looking into this issue, but for now the line will be gradually corrected over the course of in-game days.

“To summarize, these known issues are being resolved and we are continually reviewing our communities for the issues you have raised,” the developer says. “We are doing our best to fix them as soon as possible so you can enjoy the game without any worries.”
