The Minecraft Legends update from developers Mojang and Blackbird Interactive is dedicated to some of the tools you'll have at your disposal in the upcoming spin-off of the strategy game Minecraft. Along with the usual weapons you can expect, the team reveals how you'll use the power of music to call and guide your troops, with the ability to learn new songs that open up both defensive and offensive options.

The Hero's Sword is your starting weapon in Minecraft Legends, and it's a pretty reliable tool, but it's not up to the task of taking out large enemies or Pigling structures and portals, so it'll quickly be relegated to a backup role. Instead, the hero's lute will become one of the main ways you influence the world, and you will use it to play certain melodies that move the population to action.

Collecting resources, building and dismantling structures, summoning friendly mobs and golems from nearby spawners - all this is accompanied by separate songs that you will perform with a lute in your hands. The tunes you find are stored in a songbook for easy access, and as you progress, you'll gain some "very effective structures that can be used for both defense and offense."

Along with your musical talents, you can also use your Banner of Courage to rally nearby allies, force them to follow you, target structures, or attack distant bases. It is also possible to switch to Banner View mode - a special menu that gives you full control over individual units, which players with experience in RTS will appreciate.

Mounts are a core part of Minecraft and this is another element well represented in Minecraft Legends. At the beginning of the game, you will have a trusty horse, but as you adventure, you will be able to find and hire other mounts, each with unique abilities, such as fast movement or wall climbing.

In addition to all this, you will carry a small flaming cage on the side of your mount - the Flame of Creation. While they continue to burn, you can use them to summon enemies, just like traditional spawners do in Minecraft. When you repel the piglin's attack on your homesteads, you can also light the Flame of Creation there to build more spawners and attract additional mobs to protect the settlements.

You'll also want to visit your base in the Well of Doom regularly, because there are plenty of upgrades you can build there to enhance your capabilities. These include the ability to gather more allies at once, build more structures at once, and store more resources. Moving forward, you can even discover new unique allies and buildings to add to your repertoire. However, you can't use all of the upgrades, so choose them carefully!
