The Warzone 2 DMZ release date is almost here as a loot mode reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov makes its debut in Call of Duty alongside a revamped battle royale formula. Ahead of the event, developer Infinity Ward explained exactly what you can expect from the game's new multiplayer mode, which aims to combine co-op play with storytelling elements on a giant map.

It's clear that Warzone 2's DMZ mode is designed for the "hardcore finalists" of FPS games, as it will feature opportunities for three-player squads to complete faction missions, contracts, world events, resupply stashes, aid or hinder other squads, and infiltrate locked areas. You'll go in there, choose how to get the loot, and try to get it out - all of which will affect how you progress and play in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

While playing in the DMZ, you will have to manage your stashes/inventory, since at the beginning of the game you have one contraband weapon and one slot for your own weapons. Contraband weapons, including enemy weapons, can be traded and earned outside of the traditional weapon XP system. Your stash also acts as a sort of bank, allowing you to take certain items and put them in your inventory for the next match to give you an edge.

“To obtain more items, players will have to retrieve them from the exclusion zone using a backpack. This will allow players to gain 'supply' experience, such as players being able to complete a mission to equip themselves for a future deployment,” explains Infinity Ward.

So what can you do in the DMZ? The main thing is faction missions, which are carried out by PMC groups and offer rewards for completing the next task. You'll start with only one faction and unlock the rest after completing enough missions. There are also optional missions such as contracts, hostage rescue, destroying high-value targets, and major world events.

Warzone 2's circle will also disappear, with players instead being condensed by radiation and sandstorms, which Infinity Ward says will provide rewards if you find their sources. Playing the game will give you standard rewards like calling cards and double XP tokens, with the ultimate reward being the Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 weapon, the M13B Assault Rifle.

You also can't traditionally "win" a match in the DMZ, the goal is to leave the game with the loot - if you don't, everything except your insured weapon is lost forever. You can read the full article on DMZ at Infinity Ward website.
